(rest day)

Getting pretty worried about the shin. AP handily tells me the same thing after the OMM lasted 18 days. I have 5; 2 left.

Running - Trail race (Mourne MM Day2) 5:13:20 [5] 25.62 km (12:14 / km) +1330m 9:43 / km
ahr:124 max:161 shoes: X-Talon 212 (May 17)

Determined not to mess up the start.made a bad route choice on the first cluster, though, didn't account for steepness of slope tried to contour on or cragginess-had to turn around and get lower down and try again after another team told us we were above an overhang. But all the top teams went this way too so we didn't lose much time on them.

Contoured through some very rough stuff for 2k which lost us a lot.there were 2 path routes which were both faster and I didn't even consider them since they were way off line, and there was nothing on the map here to indicate runnability, so this one less my fault, but still should've seen the options.

Then good until 11 where thwarted by rocks again and had to lose a lot of height, making the path route choice not as clear cut.straight up and then along the ridge was probably faster.then good to the end.

7th today, though close; lots of teams that had messed up day 1 performed as expected to in advance.

But still awesome to finish 5th/19 Elite teams:

Managed to cut both hands today falling over on various occasions, bash my left knee on something which was hurting a lot towards the end,and also started getting shin pain which is really bad the day after. Hopefully won't prevent me from ROCing next week as looking forward to another one already!

Running - Trail race (Mourne MM Day1) 5:33:32 [5] 30.14 km (11:04 / km) +2095m 8:13 / km
ahr:135 max:177 shoes: X-Talon 212 (May 17)

First MM doing Elite, was half excited and half nervous. Had enough food to be out for about 7 hours each day.
Worst possible start: the first control description is of the start, not of number 1. And the rows are offset by one, as the start doesn't have a code; ie the title rows of each column aren't in the same row. This is hard to explain, but basically it involved us finding the first control and then wasting literally 14 minutes looking for another control in more or less the same place. We are very annoyed once we realised this. Looking at our GPS plot you'd have no idea what we were messing about at. We are both equally to blame for this,I think, Tom did it first but I didn't notice either.

After that, really good.good choices, good nav, good running.won a couple of legs which was awesome.one mistake where they've built some more paths near the reservoir so the map isn't quite right, but otherwise pretty perfect.weather was mostly dry, some rain late in the day and in the evening.

Amazed to come 4th, and only a few minutes behind 2nd?! We were hating ourselves for our initial stupidity but also very happy with the result even despite it, knowing that we were still within a good shout of 2nd.

No injuries or anything and felt fine afterwards.bring on day2!
