Orienteering - Urban race (Poynton) 1:13:51 [5] 14.72 km (5:01 / km) +72m 4:54 / km
ahr:134 max:157 shoes: Hoka Cavu

Did one thing right this time - left some controls near the finish to get near the end if I had time. This probably seems obvious, but it's the first time I've done it on purpose!

In retrospect there were a couple of 50s I probably would've had time for if I'd foregone some of the smaller ones, but not a bad effort I don't think.

Surprised the pub woman by ordering the 'skinny steak' (with quinoa salad rather than chips) and then ordering onion rings and garlic sauce as well. I doubt this is a popular order. She doesn't know I was just avoiding the chips rather than trying to be healthy.

Quinoa salad better than expected; definitely nicer than chips. Steak was good too.

Running - Road/Track (MH Road Training) 1:13:58 [3] 13.78 km (5:22 / km) +207m 5:00 / km
ahr:142 max:168 shoes: Hoka Cavu

First run with the road group, apparently it's more sedate on Mondays. Had a go at the 108-step segment a couple of times, and at the end someone said we were going to race the last 3k; obvs that ignited my competitive spirit and went quickly for that bit.
Chilly evening.

Arms aching a bit post-four vaccinations I had today.

Orienteering - Forest race (Bestwood) 1:02:01 [5] 9.23 km (6:43 / km) +364m 5:37 / km
ahr:160 max:184 shoes: X-talon 212 (blk/flro) - Nov17

Surprisingly 2nd:

8 mins behind current leader Nick Jarvis which is quite a lot.
Felt to be running ok but it was very well planned and consequently I think I messed up a lot of route choices.

Navigating well though apart from 13 where was too high up the slope (maybe 90s) and 22 'between two thickets' where I attacked from 4 different directions and still couldn't find it (3 mins). Otherwise good though.

Very aptly named race. Sustained wind for basically the entire race - to the extent that when running downhill I couldn't blink fast enough to keep the water out of my eyes to be able to see well enough to run at full speed - I think this is the first time that's ever happened. Drizzle throughout, low vis at the top which didn't matter since it was very well flagged and marshalled. Wet - where the Pennine Way was flagged it was the Pennine River. Also all the puddles on the moor had a thin layer of ice. Basically not PB conditions.
Fast start along tracks for the about 5k before started being a fell race - but then got a bit hardcore in the second half. Very muddy downhill. Overtook a group of 4 on the hill who then took me back on the flat and who I couldn't catch on the downhill - This is totally backwards. All finished less than a minute ahead though, so I must have been catching them.

I enjoyed this despite the conditions - it's amazing how it felt so remote despite crossing the motorway 4 times, partly because of the wind. Definitely feel like wind is more of a weakness for me than hills.

Turned out it was very cold.someone had hypothermia at the end.

Running - Trail race (Parkrun - Lyme Park) 20:52 [5] 5.0 km (4:10 / km) +144m 3:39 / km
ahr:149 max:156 shoes: X-Talon 212 (May 17)

1st.

This race was in our winter club champs so I thought I'd go for it. Actually I would have anyway. But the last time I was here I decided that I needed to really destroy the hill at the start and then try and hang on. This was definitely the right tactic for this parkrun. But the conditions were extremely bad - light rain (which was fine) but massively windy, lost about a minute on the last km uphill directly towards it. I think the guy behind was catching, but I was a long way ahead. We'll never know how much though, since the timing system broke!

Forecast looks like it should be dry tomorrow night so hopefully can get something gentle in then.

Running - Trail (MH Fell Training) 1:35:30 [3] 11.8 km (8:06 / km) +468m 6:45 / km
ahr:112 max:138 shoes: X-Talon 225 (July 2017)

Less foggy up top than yesterday but still with snow on the ground meant good conditions - legs really feeling it up the hills, though - thankfully it was an easy pace.
