Day 5 at Mount Brown.
Was really looking forward to running on this map - had heard a lot of good things. This was a pretty good run for me again. One bigger error and a couple of small ones but no extreme ones like the day before. Nailed #1 which I was pleased about. #2 was my worst control. I went a bit too far along and was a bit too high and had to go back but it only cost me about 4 mins. #3 was a bit slow clambering over the steep rocks along the fence. Since my bearings the past few days weren't the best, I took #6 pretty slow to make sure I nailed it. Lost map contact on #7 when I took when now seems to be the best route choice anyway but at the time I didn't even see it and when I got to the fence and went the opposite way that I was meant to but it didn't feel right so I went back the proper way and it was all good. A bit hesitant in the circle of #10. Lost a bit less than 10 mins total I think.
A good end to a great week.

Day 4 at Kooringale.
Not such a great run overall but a good learning/training one.
Major mistake on #2. I took a bad bearing and ended up on the wrong spur. I ran past #3, #4 and #10 several times but didn't check my numbers so I didn't realise, before bailing to the track, finding a fence corner and tractor and thinking "What the heck have I done" and realised that I was on a different part of the track and waay off where I was meant to be. Quickly went back to the right control. It was such a stupid mistake and I didn't even see the best route choice option when I was planning which was along the track to the drinks and the in. Lost about 15 mins. A bit slow on #3 as I checked an extra control on the way even though I knew it wasn't it. #6 was a bit slow as well as I checked another control but that made me attack the proper control from below which was the best option so it wasn't all bad. Coming into #7 I was a bit too far left. #8 took a while as I was struggling to get myself to run up the hill on the paddock. I ended up a bit too high but realised in time. For #9, I came off the track too early and was searching the rocks a bit too high but soon realised. Total time losses probably add up to about 20 mins.

Day 3 at Oakview.
Nice area. Parts were a bit like cascades and others were a bit like Brooklands.
Main error was on #1. The best route choice would've been to come from above through the open and down the bear rock and you could pass the various knolls and distinct boulder on the way. My plan was to come from around the side through the clearing and bear rock then down to it. I was being silly and went in too far and ended up going through all the green and searching for it too low on similar features. After a bit I realised and heading higher, straight into the control. I was a bit too low again on #2 but not by much and I could see the control as it was very open there so I didn't lose more than a few seconds. Going to #3 I ended up way too far N to go around the mountain and had to follow the fence back up, probably costing me 2 mins. Was too low again on #4 but realised quickly. A bit hesitant on #5 as the mapping was difficult to interpret. Ran straight past #8 to check a different control and saw the right one a I turned around. Probably lost about 6 mins overall.

Day 2 at the Blue Hole.
Pretty good run at another nice area. A bit rusty at the whole bush orienteering thing though.
The only major error was #4 where I drifted off my bearing and ended up to far on the right in an area that looked like it could've been the correct one. Wandered around for a while before finally realising and going to the right spot. Probably lost about 7 mins total on that leg. Came up the wrong gully on #5 but realised pretty quickly, probably only loosing about a minute. #15 had some boulders right next to it which looked just like it and #16 was difficult to access from above it so I lost about a minute on each of those as well. In total I probably lost about 10 mins.
Nice to wade in the creek afterwards!

Day 1 - Sprint at the Uni of New England.
Really good run - everything just worked. I was a bit slow getting into it at the start as I wasn't really in the zone and my watch hadn't loaded so I wasted a few seconds waiting for it before I started properly. Lost time on #2 as I was taking to long to decide on which route. For #5 I probably should've gone back out the same way I came in but it was a bit narrow and disrupted my control flow so I didn't but I probably lost a few seconds deciding whether or not it was legal to cross the earth bank before taking the long way around. Lost a few seconds in places because I was walking a bit too.
Winner by 4 seconds woohoo!
