O race (O Middle) 52:50 [3]

Was pleased with this. I decided to focus on accuracy rather than speed and it paid off. I had a few small misses in the circle, but was never far off and recovered well. Maybe got lucky a few times as there was someone exiting the control when I had missed.

Hesitated a bit early to #3 as I hadn't got the pacing quite right.

Lost a bit of time east of #6 as I followed an elephant track into the worst of the green. Checking the map before I got on my hands and knees would have saved me a bit of time.

Close to #10, misinterpreted the mapped depressions with what was on the ground. I just needed to look left to see the control.

A poor bearing out of #12, but the path caught me.

The control description was a bit odd for #18 and I got drawn to another control I could see, even though i suspected it was too far north. Even when I got to #18, I'm not sure about how the control description described it.

The only time I lost a bit of map contact was to #19. The dark green wasn't as obvious as I'd hoped and it was only when I made it to the large depression that I was sure again.

O race (Sprint) 19:15 [5]

Heats

Quite pleased with this. Was mostly on top of things and only a few small hesitations. Was running reasonably well too.

Slow start to #1, while I got my head round the map and the chaos around me with the other people starting at the same time.
Hesitated a bit to #8 as I'd forgotten about the route being blocked till I got there. Only lost about 10s though.

Dithered a bit coming out from under the canopy to #14 and realised I was on the wrong level. Quite an easy save though, lost 20s.

Crossing the road to #19 seemed to throw me off and lost about 10s refocusing.

My realistic goal at this level is to try to make the A final. Was 8th and needed 6th at about 2mins quicker. There is only a little to be saved from better navigating, so I just need to get quicker!

O race (O Sprint) 18:46 [5]

Final

Not as good as my run in the heats. My lack of fitness was showing and my speed wasn't good. That might have contributed to a few more mistakes.

There might have been a quicker route to #3, but I couldn't get my head round the multi-level bits. The only route I was sure about was the one I worked out with Google Streeview beforehand. So I ran that and didn't try to guess. I struggle with interpreting multi-level in general and I don't enjoy these bits.

Anne got to #3 just before me so I just followed her to #4. I don't think I would have got it right on my own.

At some point exiting #8, I started navigating to #14 instead of #9. Just inattention and a little fatigue I think. Only realised once exiting #14. Not a complete disaster, but lost about 40s.

The route through the carpark to #17 was a mistake. It was very busy as with the path to #18, busy with orienteers milling around after their run. Lost about 30s total.
