Rogaining 4:01:11 [3] 27.0 km (8:56 / km)

Well what to say about this. Jo couldn't do the rogaine with us so the dream team was missing a member. We were so excited for the event and had high hopes of doing well. Both Abby and I weren't having the best days however there will be more rogaines where we can do better.
During planning time we planned to get all controls except for four lowish pointers. Dion told us that they were getting all but two controls so we decided to add in another two controls ((big mistake)). We also kinda didn't notice the twenty million contours on the map. We also forgot to sleep on top of our map in planning time so therefore it didn't get embedded in our brain.
The race started right on 4 and we headed cleanly to 30. We then headed down the road to 35. We got to the lake, searched and searched and couldn't find it. We then decided to move on and go to 72. We got caught up in a spiral of suburbs and ran at least 3km in a control that should have been about a km or less. However the time from 30 to 73 was just over 25 mins which in a 4hr is 10% of your time!!! I don't even know what happened going to 73 but we wasted another 25 minutes wondering around in the vague creek system not exactly thinking. Going to 92 we spent another 20 mins searching for the ruin when we were actually about 500m away from it and some kind team decided to tell us that we had to keep on going up the track. Ugh. 81 was 23 mins we went slowly there as we were so upset with how it was going. At 81 we were considering giving up however we knew with the score we had we would actually come dead last and that would be so embarrassing. The descent down to 64 was slow and steep and we got our shoes muddy. By then we had gotten 6 controls and were almost 2hrs in. In comparison in the last 2 hours we got 17 controls. We got 25% of our controls in the first 2 hrs and 75% in the last 2 hrs. Not a good ratio. We went to 32, 34 and 44 quite cleanly however slightly slow as we weren't feeling too good. We ate so many lollies at 44 and then felt sick going to 33. After our sugar boost we did everything else well. We got to control 45 with about 14 mins to the end. We didn't quite realise but the HH was 3km away. We actually sprinted I don't know where the energy came from but we were running sub 5 mins km. We were running along quite a busy road and people were yelling at us to get off but we couldn't because we actually had to get back. Since we were running past 35 which we couldn't find earlier we decided to have one last look and to our surprise it was there, we were looking in the wrong spot earlier. Cringe. We got back 1min and 11 sec late, 20 points.
We were pretty disappointed to say the least. We thought with our efforts we would come 53rd we would be lucky. We were suprised to come 9th however we should have done better. I was glad Erica and dad won the family category on my dads last ever family rogaine. John and Stefano did really well. Speaking positively our lunatic award was hilarious. Haha. And we won an io Merrion voucher which was good.
We will definitely improve and do much better in the next rogaine. It was about time something went wrong as everything went so well in the last two 3hrs and 6hrs.
102 days til the next rogaine and we are already keen!:)

Running 1:25:18 [3] 12.0 km (7:07 / km)

Went for a nice long run through Panorama and surrounds. Ran at a steady pace I think I could maintain for the duration of the rogaine.
