Pawtuckaway with La
nice run in the snow. So nice to be back here -- though I was sad to see the addition of a new mtn bike track through some of the best parts of the map. err. The best map in North America is just not what it was...

Borough Watershed
Up over Furnace Hill, along the ridge and down to the Little Hay and down to the Hay Creek at the White Bear. Climbed up over Long Mountain and down to the Horsehoe trail. Followed it past the rod and gun club and along the bottom of Brush Hill to Six Penny, out to 345 up to Kulptown. Picked up the track in Kulptown, but stuck to the north side of the ridge until I came out on top of the new quarry. The hill was so deformed that I hardly recognised where I was... The steep hill used to be covered in rocky outcrops and stunted chestnut and red oak - there was a route down through the rocks and along the old quarry tht lead to the bottom a distance of about a kilometer. Its a moonscape now. I excercised what I considered incredible restaint and did not follow my traditional route but instead south out the otehr old track that came out just at the edge of Birdsboro. After a bit of bashing and hard remembering, I found the track and made it to the Hay Creek. Tyrolian traversed the Hay on the cable, and climbed up behind Trap Rock and back up Cedar Hill.

The woods was remarkablely quiet -- Cloudy and slight Sou'easter.

Achilles were tight for the first quarter hour, but loosened by the top of Furnace Hill.

tramping 40:00 [1]

Fairly poor excuse for a training session - but dragged the doe over Cedar hill this morn, following an embarassingly long tracking session.... Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to the firing up the grill for Christmas.

Also watched a red fox (not particularly swampy) and flushed a woodcock... very nice light while the fog was lifting.

Birdsboro Borough Land
Up over Furnace Hill and down to White Bear Tavern, over Long Mountain to Horseshoe trail, around the ridge to Kulptown and down main trail to the Indian Creek Reservoir. Crossed the Hay and climbed Trap Rock and back to Cedar hill. Stuck mainly to the trails except where I was blatantly trespassing on Long Mountain.

My feet/achilles behaved beautifullly, though I was still being careful with them -- I went easy on the hills.

Woods was alive this morning -- paused for a Pileated woodpecker, for 15 or so Wild turkey, a pretty big buck that made it another year, and a lone somewhat tired looking raccoon (must have been a hard day's night).

Birdsboro Borough - Indian creek reservoir loop
Over Furnace Hill, down the main track to the Hay up around the Reservoir up to the weir and back up Trap Rock to Cedar Hill.

This was the first run since I've been back in PA, so this was largely to test my achilles and feet.... I'm still having to be very careful with them due to largely sudden and unprevoked pain... Remarkabley, the run went without incident or pain, which was really nice for a change -- as was to spend the morning on my old stomping grounds.
