Dà xiágǔ. Climbed up to Yùdài lù to Qī lóng nǚ xī (seven dragon maiden creek) past the fire wardens -- all tucked up in their little hut with a glowing fire. Actually it looked really nice -- they filled the valley with some sweet pine smoke and serious culinary aromas, and mercy me, there was a chilly wind coming off the tops. I managed to pass them by and plod around to dà xiágǔ, climbed up into the gorge to the end of the track and then boulder hopped up another 20 minutes or so through some impressively massive boulders. Turned around and dropped down the valley on the newly 'improved' track (blah), over past the old tea farm homestead, and then bashed across the scrappy lower slopes getting completely swallowed up rank grass and head-high weeds...Nice night out.

Lìjiāng old town with La. Just followed a preplanned route. A good pace, but legs were a bit weak on the hills.

Ride northeast of Lìjiāng. Rode east out of frosty Lìjiāng and up a series of rocky tuōlājī tracks to a fantastic rolling limestone plateau (only a few hike-a-bike bushbash sections) of pine and oak. Stopped for lunch just before rolling into a little aptly named Yí zú village of Jiǔzǐhǎi (nine little lakes) nestled on the edge of the forest in a giant sinkhole. Crossed the flat rangeland (with lakes) and back up into the scrubby karst forest. Finally crossed into the northern slope, through a few dusty little Nàxī zú villages, and dropped into the forest on some very nice little tracks to end up on a PWT orienteering map -- very nice terrain. A fast 20k back into town fighting a headwind and watching the sun set.
