Run race (Jabulani Challenge) 4:32:10 [5] 45.0 km (6:03 / km) +1065m 5:24 / km
shoes: Asics Kayano 22

Wasn't really feeling up to this leading up the race. Even had thoughts of withdrawing. But now glad I had run.

Started off with lead group of 4 for first 10km up Gibberagong Track. Was feeling pretty comfortable on the technical trail but by the time the first hills came was happy to let the top 2 go ahead as I wasn't sure how long I would last. At the first out-and-back section in North Turramurra saw the leaders were 4 min ahead at about 15km. Was feeling pretty good at this stage and and ran strongly down Sphinx Track and into Darri Track, not sure how close I got to the leaders but must have been within minutes.

But 2km before the aid station at 25km started feeling a bit dehydrated and was finding it hard to take food in. Then downed heaps of water at the aid station and for a few km's after that struggled with stomach cramps. I was feeling really low on energy along Mueller Track where the eventual Top 2 guys overtook me. Finally perked up around the 33km mark at the final turnaround point at Ku-Ring-Gai Wildflower Gardens.

Surprisingly was feeling pretty good for last 10km. Lost time on the Top 2 but gained time on 3rd and 4th places who were both leading for 40km of the race.

Finished in 5th place.

And now I can rest! That ends my season which had a few poor results and a few good ones. Happy with Rafferty's, Hounslow, Dover Half, Jabulani. Not happy with Coastal Classic (again), Canarias k42 and most O.

Will try to change it up when I'm running again in 4-6 weeks.

Was hoping to have a bit more energy than I did. Not very well prepared and didn't pick a great route. Not looking forward to next week now, hope I improve.
