Orienteering race (South Wales Summer Series) 59:51 [5] ***
ahr:159 max:185 spiked:14/19c shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 8

1hr score at Wenallt Forest. Very foggy and visibility was massively low. Had to stop just to read the map at times. Course was muddy and slippery and didn't bring the right shoes plus couldn't find a couple. Did the last 15 minutes hard as I wasn't doing so well for the rest of the course, probably collecting half my points. Was leading when I left.

Orienteering race (Swansea Bay Summer Series) 42:00 [5] *** 6.0 km (7:00 / km)
ahr:158 max:178 spiked:1/10c shoes: Brooks Trance 7

One of the worst courses I have ever run plus it was raining! Map was so badly mapped and it was pot luck if you got stuck in thick blackberry bushes. Course setter just put controls amoungst it and some of them weren't even in the circle. Lost over 10 minutes altogether.

Orienteering race (South Wales Summer League) 29:00 [5] *** 4.4 km (6:35 / km)
ahr:158 max:182 spiked:12/18c shoes: Brooks Trance 7

Sprint Course - controls were very hidden. Don't know if it's worth using Sport Ident when you got to hide the controls like that. Being overcast and pretty dark didn't help. Lost between 30-60secs at no.2,3,4,7,12 and 13. No real errors just couldn't find the damn things, it would been the same for everybody though. Not sure what the other times were.

Run race (Exmoor Marathon) 3:58:21 [5] 43.0 km (5:33 / km) +4267m 3:42 / km
ahr:164 max:183 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 8

Felt really good for the entire race!

Smashed the previous record by 42 minutes (course had been cut by 1 mile so still would have broke it). Unfortunately, was beaten by a few minutes so the record is not mine but still very pleased with result :)

Course was massively steep and undulating nearly all on single trail, hence the long time. For some reason today I was able to run up every incline at reasonable pace pushing 180bpm even after nearly 4 hours. I was expecting to hit-the-wall or slow massively but astonishingly it didn't come.

Race started off at a cracker pace. I didn't want to lose the front runners so tried to hang on, only to to find out that the 2 front guys were time trialling the 10km course. Anyhow I could see the real marathon guy in 1st at times, where you could see a few minutes ahead.

Pushed the pace for the last 5km which I reckon was my fastest section but couldn't bridge the gap.

Great area and spectacular views overlooking the coast!

Orienteering race (Irish Championships) 2:13:00 [5] ***** 11.4 km (11:40 / km) +520m 9:30 / km
ahr:156 max:180 spiked:10/16c shoes: Asics Kayano 14

Classic - The whole course was a marsy bog so it was wet and every step of the 2 hr plus run was an effort. Was one of the first starters and didn't see anyone the whole course. Lost about 15 minutes in errors but never got going - running was too hard on the old legs! Finished in 14th 30min behind winner.

Orienteering race (Irish Championships) 53:00 [5] ***** 5.2 km (10:12 / km) +250m 8:13 / km
ahr:165 max:182 spiked:11/16c shoes: Asics Kayano 14

Middle Distance - Course was run in the bog. It was really hard to run at all. Every step was ankle deep in soft marsh and sometimes up to waist deep. The event was in held in the mountains which made it freezing cold. On the plus side there were no trees or vegetation so you could see quite a way ahead. Made a few <1 min errors early on but then lost 6 minutes near the end. Finished in 18th 10 minutes behind the winner.
