Technical course but fairly clean run. Lost a little time at no.4 going in too early (30 secs), no.5 too high (45 secs), no.8 route choice then got stuck in the green at the control (1 min), no.12 didn't read map properly (15 secs).

Run race (North Face 50km) 5:26:17 [5] 50.0 km (6:32 / km) +2787m 5:06 / km
shoes: Asics Kayano 19

Perfect day out for a 50km run. But unfortunately never really felt comfortable and really struggled home in the second half.

Started at Fairmont Resort in Leura following lazydave around in his golf cart for the first few kms. It was a pretty fast pace with the leaders doing less than 4 min/km. I dropped back into about 8th and stayed in that position through first 11km to CP1 at Queen Victoria Hospital. The next 9km was downhill through Kedumba Pass and got to the halfway point at 25km ok in about 2hrs10min.

But that's when it all started to fall apart. I struggled up the hill towards Leura Forest losing a couple of spots. I could hardly lift my legs through the single trail along Federal Pass and by the time I got to Furber steps at 32km I was really starting to struggle. Going up the 900 odd stairs were really painful and I kept cramping in my calves. When I got to the top I couldn't stretch out at all along the road as my calves would cramp up. Apparently loads of other runners had the same problem. I ended up cruising through to CP2 at 36km in about 10th place.

The last 10km from the Three Sisters through to the finish was a real effort. It was single trail most of the way with numerous stairs up and down the cliff faces. I wasn't expecting that at all and pretty much walked half of it and losing a few more places.

Ended up finishing in 13th place well down on the leader Vlad. I really should have been able to at least 45 minutes quicker but fitness levels, cramping and a bad day out, it wasn't going to happen.

Orienteering race (WHO Club Event) 43:00 [5] *** 9.79 km (4:24 / km) +105m 4:10 / km
spiked:18/18c shoes: Asics Kayano 19

Score event on Joseph Banks at Kings Langley. Easy street/park course. Felt pretty good, lost a little bit of time punching control card in wrong boxes. Wasn't used to it! Got all controls in 43, Glenn Horrocks smashed it in 41.19.

Orienteering race (National League) 2:04:25 [5] *** 17.76 km (7:00 / km)
spiked:20/26c shoes: VJ Interator 2010

Classic Distance on Boboyan Divide. Again started poorly, losing time on no.1 and then 4 min on no.2 and 5 min on no.5. Bruce Arthur caught me soon after and ran with/near him with just a couple minor misses up to no.18. I was getting very tired by then accidentally started the second butterfly loop in reverse by getting no.23 then running towards 22 when I realised. From then struggled on to the finish down in 15th place.

Orienteering race (National League) 20:48 [5] *** 3.2 km (6:30 / km) +40m 6:07 / km
spiked:22/25c shoes: Brooks Trance 10

Sprint at CSIRO Black Mountain. Started in the bush section. Lost 1 minute at no.2 as it was vague and didn't really know where I was. Rob Bennett caught me there. Then into the buildings stuffed no.8 down in a garden map which was not mapped because it was undercover. The problem was that it was taped off so I thought it was out-of-bounds so lost a fair bit of time there. Middle few were all ok then lost more time at no.20 going in too early. Finished well down in 27th.

Orienteering race (National League) 49:12 [5] *** 7.3 km (6:44 / km) +200m 5:56 / km
spiked:20/26c shoes: VJ Interator 2010

Middle Distance at Orroral Tracking Station. Lost 2 minutes at the short 1st control which wasn't even 100m away from the start triangle. The bush was thicker than mapped and the rocks weren't too visible. Was way too high on no.5 and then again at no.6. Had already lost 6 minutes to this point where lazydave caught me. Ran the rest of the course with him losing 30 secs on no.14 and maybe 2 min on no.20. Was expecting to be much further down in the field and behind the winner. Finished in 16th.

Good effort by the Stingers with Robbie taking the win, Ezy in 4th and Macey 5th.
