Run race (Beerwah @Daybreak) 4:12:35 [5] 44.11 km (5:44 / km) +1168m 5:03 / km
shoes: Innov-8 X-Talon 212

Very early start getting up at 3am for a 4am start. It had been raining most of the night and was still raining on and off during the entire race. The first 30 min were in the dark, and the top 10 pretty much were all bunched in single file along the single trail running at a slow pace as it was so wet and slippery.

After 6km it got light and ended up in the lead pack of 4 once it got out to the less slippery trails. Nearing the first 22km loop I had started dropping off the back of the pack but feeling OK as I hit halfway in 1.58.30.

The 2nd loop was the same but in reverse. For most part I was on my own thinking the lead runners were miles ahead (when they were only a few minutes ahead until the last 5-6km). I got passed by one guy but didn't bother trying to stay with him as I was feeling pretty tired and just tried to hang on. The last 5-6km was pretty horrible, as I got stuck up in the 10km and Half Marathon runners and together the track got really muddy and slippery so it was impossible to keep up any momentum. Legs were starting to feel pretty achy too which they normally are when wearing trail running shoes.

Ended up in 5th about 15 min down on the leader. Happy with that considering only 4 weeks training and only 1 long run above 20km in that time. Also no rest leading up and O the arvo before probably didn't help. Nice area but probably not a race I'd do again.

Orienteering race (Brisbane UltraSprint) 7:55 [5] *** 1.51 km (5:15 / km) +13m 5:02 / km
spiked:12/14c shoes: Asics Kayano 24

The UltraSprint was on the way home. If it was any other format, I probably wouldn't have bothered but glad I went because it was fun.

First course started off very slowly being quite stiff. I was so hesitant too getting used to the scale. Needed to grow some balls and just trust my instinct rather than counting trees etc. So wasted a lot of time. Ended up about 1 min down so some making up to do on the other courses.

Orienteering race (Brisbane UltraSprint) 9:43 [5] *** 1.97 km (4:56 / km) +18m 4:43 / km
spiked:21/21c shoes: Asics Kayano 24

Much better run. Felt much looser. Probably helped a little that I'd been around the map on the earlier course. Getting pretty tired though on the last 500m in the open. Caught back some time.

Orienteering race (Brisbane UltraSprint) 8:18 [5] *** 1.76 km (4:43 / km) +18m 4:29 / km
spiked:22/22c shoes: Asics Kayano 24

Best run of the three. No time losses and made up some more time to climb to 2nd. Had lost far too much on that first course.

Surprised how I'd pulled up after the earlier marathon, maybe because I was slowed in the marathon by lack of fitness and being a slow wet and slippery course so the normal leg pounding was as bad as usual.

Orienteering race (Bris Park O - The Gap) 19:08 [5] *** 3.88 km (4:56 / km) +72m 4:31 / km
spiked:16/20c shoes: Asics Kayano 24

Some good technical bits mixed with some open park and streets. Had a pretty clean run except maybe 5 secs or so on 4 controls. Tried to hold back a little to 'rest' for tomorrow's race.
