Token effort of write up

Course was in Anaga, the Northern tip of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. I can't recall any of it being flat. It was either up or down.

Started off ok in about 15th place through the first 15km. Lost a few spots on the first big downhill but made them back up in the first big climb feeling ok by the 3rd aid station at 21km. But that's when it all started falling apart. To follow was a huge uphill of 8km and about 1000m climb and I totally blew up from the start of it. I was getting hot and getting really dehydrated and was getting passed every couple of minutes, probably about 50 places. I had to resort to walking and must have looked wrecked as walkers gave me orange juice and later coke to help me get up. It took me a good 1.5 hrs for the climb and just lay down at the aid station. After about 5 minutes started off again, very slowly. The downhills were killing my quads and had no power on the hills. All I wanted to do was finish, counting down the aid stations and the km's on my watch. Finished so far back by the end and had never been so happy that it was over.

Amazing scenery though. Also the Spanish like to talk a lot during the run. I couldn't understand what they were saying but also probably had no energy to respond. Many of them offered gels and food. The race was all a good vibe.
