Run race (Red Bull Dune Dusters) 50:47 [5] 8.0 km (6:21 / km) +39m 6:12 / km
shoes: Asics Kayano 22

Started off conservatively with Brooner and probably hit the first dune in around 30th place. Felt quite comfortable for first half and had got up into 13th and the lead group just 1 dune ahead. Still with Brooner trading footprints, we passed 3 more in a group approaching the really steep dunes. I was then having trouble as my shoes were filling with sand and my toes were getting sore. I couldn't hold Brooner for last couple km's as I couldn't stretch out on anything but uphills because of the sand in my shoes losing a few seconds per downhill and a few more on the flatter sections. Don't think I would have caught him anyway. Finished in 10th place, 30 secs down on Brooner in 9th and 5-6 min off the leaders including Courtney Atkinson and Stu Adams who had won the 2 previous years. Thankfully course ended up about 1km shorter than last year. Can't decide whether it was 'fun' or not. Sand running not my favourite kind. Magical area though. Toes very tender afterwards.

Orienteering race (Sydney Summer Series #5) 45:35 [5] *** 9.34 km (4:53 / km) +139m 4:33 / km
spiked:28/30c shoes: Asics Kayano 22

Pretty good course with a lot of trails. Was too scared of the light crossing at #18 on Epping Road. Could have potentially lost 2 minutes waiting so skipped it out.

Started out 2-12-30-5-28-13-14-20-25-21-7-22-10-17-3-19 then tried bush bashing it up to near #29 but had no idea where I was coming out. Luckily I guessed the right direction but lost time figuring it out. Steve R caught me at 9 then had a fun run in with him through 27-26-24-15-6-4-8-23-11-1. Doesn't happen often where you get to run for an extended period with someone on these.

Ended up top score with Ondrej on 570, Steve 560. Happy I went as was contemplating not running due to being hungover from a day at the races and not turning up to work earlier till midday.
