Run (Ultra Trail Gold Coast) 5:17:43 [5] 49.66 km (6:24 / km) +1842m 5:24 / km
shoes: Asics Kayano 24

The original plan by entering this race was to use it as a long training run for Lamington Classic in a few weeks, but Lamington was cancelled due to the recent fires. I was committed to running so didn't go with a plan other than to just hang on knowing I'd be underdone running 50km given just 3 weeks of training.

Course was all on undulating fire trails which was pretty steep in sections. First lap of 25km settled back around 7th running with positions 4-7th most of the way. I was feeling ok but not comfortable, finishing the first lap in 2.20. Then after a 3 min break struggled from the start of the 2nd 25km. Every km was 1-2 min slower than the first lap and legs were hard to turn over. Plus it was getting pretty hot. Surprisingly I picked up 3 positions up to 4th. But a much slower 2nd lap in 2.57.

Ankle was fine throughout. Other leg was a bit niggly so might have been over compensating. Note to self - never race this distance under prepared. It wasn't very enjoyable for the last couple hours.
