Orienteering 3:53:00 [3]
shoes: Asics GT 2120 T (nov 08)

Felt very strong physically for most of it. Legs started to cramp on the long road/trail run 3/4 of the way, but they didnt slow me down as much as they did the last 2 years. Took a caffeine gel at the 3/4 running section, which didn't help the legs any, but it made me very loopy and good spirited.

We made lots of mistakes in the race, more than last year and the year before. 10mins worth at least.
-#6 distracted by Igor and Mike cutting off trail too early.(1min)
-#7 Got to the top of the first points climb in 3rd after nailing the matrix and passing 4 teams ,but continued up the next set of stairs for about a minute before realizing we had to go back down. Was very hard to read the map in this section. We lost a lot of our precious lead over the other co-ed team(2min).
-#7-8 To the second points climb. Got super confused by the instructions/map. The other co-ed team went straight across the bridge (the right way), I thought they were making a mistake and led the team down the first set of stairs. (3min)
-#8 Went down too low to the bottom clearing en route, plus bobble at ctrl. Lost lead over Mike/Igor. (1min)
-#10 Behind Igor, thinking we were heading into the control wrong but followed anyways. Recovered quickly but still time lost. (30s)
-#14 Had to go up far side, and around cliff to ctrl (1min)
-#15 Found 15a before 15, my fault very stupid. (5min)

Very fun race. Great course and beautiful day!

Orienteering (Vampire-O) 30:00 [2]
shoes: Asics GT 2140 (May 09)

Was vamped numerous times for the first 3/4. Managed to capture a fairly good control card at one point though, and was cruising along picking up the remaining controls. Passed Emily and Molly going the other way at one control, and on my next control I got vamped yet again. So instead of vamping someone in my proximity, I sprinted back for about 500m to where I figured Emily and Molly had gotten to, thinking that they probably had pretty good cards. Hid behind some bushes and tagged Emily on her way out from a control. Picked up a few more controls with my new card, but then realized I had missed one back where I had come from tagging Emily. Steathily made my way back to control 11 which was now swarming with vampires. As I approached the control, Emily shot out of some bushes, beaming the red laser in my direction from about 10m away. The next minute was the fastest I've sprinted in a long time trying to get away/ stay more than 5m ahead of her. I succesfully escaped, and after another minute of hiding out, I finally got in to control 11 . Examined the control card closely at that point and realized everything had been punched! Ran back to the finish slowly with my light off, and there was nobody else there when I got there. VICTORY! :P
