Urban cycling with road bike (Reunion ride in Perth) 1:46:00 [4] 39.0 km (22.1 kph) +124m
shoes: Merida Scultura 5000 (2017)

How good to be in Perth! First time since we left in 2016. Andrew and Nick took me to around the Mt Henry Bridge circuit... we ended up in the morning event at Elizabeth Quay where we met Tash...and then went for a wrap up coffee in Maylsnds, good times! https://www.strava.com/activities/1909409040/share...

Note

Long distance summary to follow, but my jet lag was affecting me badly, and I simply did not perform well.

Not a biggie given the national series was secured, but having traveled so much before an important race is not a good idea.

Control point where I had a time loss Time loss Reason for time loss
#7 5:47 Mistake
Left control 6 and instead of turning west I went north and then east until I was approaching the main road, where I realised I was off the grid. At least I managed to correct this issue relatively quickly.
#9 9:02 Mistake
Simply turned earlier than I should, I was riding on an unmapped track before reaching the triangle clearing, seriously bad
#12 1:31 don’t think there was an issue there
#13 49 Was just struggling to find the control while riding around the expected location
#15 41 I don’t think the control was positioned correctly but found it eventually

Total time lost: 17:53 min

Highlights

 Splits https://www.attackpoint.org/racesplits.jsp/race_29...

Overall, this was a bad race (which better to forget!), although I was jet-lagged… I made silly mistakes which I should not do.. and lost too much time. Looking on my results this season, I have performed really well in sprints and fairly well in the middle distance categories. However, in the long distance category I consistently did not performed well at all which makes me worry that my endurance fitness is not good or my decision-making deteriorating over long events.

Things to improve

 Endurance fitness
 Going out of singles

Time:3 hr10
Speed average: 14kph

MTBO Race race 1:06:48 [4] 16.84 km (15.1 kph) +354m
ahr:159 max:181 shoes: Cannondale SI 2

Summary to follow, but in general, I was really happy with my navigation and everything else, no big issues, just could have shaved 4-5 minutes from the overall time. At least 2-3 occasions could have made better route choices from 4 to 5 and from 7 to 8. But, I was a bit hesitant to take the risk and preferred to play it safe.

For the first time since I have started MTBO 8 years ago, I won the National Series M40, so certainly, something I am very happy with...((-:

3 times 3rd (QLD and Victoria) my Sprint in QLD was the best result of the year.
2 times 2nd (Victoria and the ACT)
1 time 1st which was DSQF (Victoria) because of my fault

Not a perfect season but certainly a good one...I was especially upset not winning ED in the middle distance in Victoria after leading half of the race (kicked the bucket) but my revenge (-: will wait for 2019.
