Bouldering (The Works) 1:30:00 [0]
A bit like last week, managed about 30 minutes of good climbing and then my forearms were blown and I was struggling. Have two really fiddly problems to work on now so looking forward to going back. Have also completed some ripper problems, Oli should be very scared!

Sunday Sep 28

Orienteering (York street race (2004)) 35:00 * 7 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: adidas adistar control
Short warm up jog then ran tempo around the 2004 York Street race course. Longer cool down. Good fun, got stuck when a gate into the gardens was still locked.

Saturday Sep 27

Running (Fell run) 40:00 [2] 7 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: inov8 x-talon 215
nice run out the back of tebay, starting off on a track but mostly cross t'moor. Felt loads better today!

Friday Sep 26

Running (struggle) 35:00 [2] 6 km (5:50 / km)
shoes: Nike Structure Triax 11
Felt terrible today, ran to Kim and Rich's and struggled the whole way. Was nice to visit porter brook valley again. Felt much better after some wine and veggie dinner at food and fine wine.

Thursday Sep 25

Running (morning jog) 45:00 [2] 8 km (5:38 / km) +205m 4:59 / km
shoes: adidas adistar control
Had a massage last night from Dave loosening off my quads and itbs. They felt great, rest of me felt rubbish! Jogged down past the cemetary to the stables then below the allotments and across the paddocks to Rivelin. Ran back down Rivelin almost all the way to Rob and Clare's then back home via Bole Hill.
Bouldering (The Works) 1:00:00 [0]
At the works with Hilary, Kel and Neil. Went hard early with Neil and knocked off some good problems then fell in a big hole.

Wednesday Sep 24

Running (rivelin run) 35:00 [1] 6 km (5:50 / km) +200m 5:00 / km
shoes: adidas adistar control
Easy run with Liz past the cemetary to the stables, through the allotments, past Mike's path (Liz was well impressed) then down the hill and back home past the stables again.

Tuesday Sep 23

Running warm up/down 40:00 [2] 7 km (5:43 / km)

Running (Monday Night Run) 40:00 [2] 8 km (5:00 / km) +195m 4:27 / km
shoes: adidas adistar control
Met up with Nails, Magic, Camel, Danger, Zanthe and ba-ba at Goodwin then ran out through Crosspool and back along Rivelin. Nice to loosen up the legs after the race yesterday.

Sunday Sep 21

Running warm up/down 25:00 [1] 4 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: montrail phoenix
A bit of jogging around before the start, some drills and some strides. Then a shuffle after the race to cooldown.
Running race (Stanage Struggle) 44:28 [5] 6.0 mi (7:24 / mi) +340m 3:55 / km
shoes: montrail phoenix
Struggle-town... Really thought I was going to run better than this today, I gave everything but my legs felt dead right from the start. Nice loop though and a cracking day out in the peak. Recovered with a double scoop Hope Valley ice cream and cumberland sausage from LJs.

Saturday Sep 20

Cycling (Bradfield loop) 1:40:00 [1] 45 km (2:13 / km) +396m 2:08 / km
Crusiy ride with Blackjack Baker, great day for it and a fantastic loop, only had about 5 cars pass us on the entire ride. Lucky for me Rob was taking it easy after being sick all week.

Friday Sep 19

Running 1:02:00 [2] 10 km (6:12 / km) +300m 5:23 / km
shoes: adidas adistar control
Ran straight down to Hunters Bar to meet up with Nails and run around his 'middle' loop. A first time for me to run across from Porter Brook to Rivelin to make a loop. Ran along Mike's path for the first time, I'd run across the grass a couple of weeks ago but must have missed the path... Seems to be getting a bit overgrown for some reason.
C • Mike's path 7

Thursday Sep 18

Running warm up/down 25:00 [1] 4 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: adidas adistar control
Jog down to the gym and then jog around weston park, ponderosa and home afterwards.
Gym (S10) 45:00 [2]
shoes: adidas adistar control
Session down at S10, after jogging down did another 10 minutes on one of the machines and ergo. Did some VMO strengthening and calf raises for injury prevention (only managed 20 single leg calf raises - got to work on that) then leg press, bench press, squat, bench pull. Free weights section was rammed with damn students, Kel got a lot of attention as the only female daring to enter the testosterone zone. I can't believe they only have one squat bar!
C • the testosterone zone 4

Wednesday Sep 17

Climbing (The Edge) 1:30:00 [0]
At the edge with kel and craig. Did some lead climbing plus a few tougher routes as well.
C • let us know 13

Monday Sep 15

Bouldering (The Works) 2:00:00 [0]
With Liz and Craig, although had an hour by myself first. Managed to get to the top of the problem that defeated OJ and me on the competition wall last time and had fun on a lot of the blue, black, brown and spotty yellow problems around the rest of the works.

Just can't shake of the remnants of this cold, fell fine except for some irritation in my lungs and trachea. Probably just need to htfu and get stuck back in to it.

Thursday Sep 11

Bouldering (The Works) 1:30:00 [0]
Session at the works with the Johnsons and Nails. Off to a bad start when Oli drove to Greystones to pick me up when I live in Crookes, after that 30 minute diversion we were back on track! Nails was on fire definitely getting back in to some sort of climbing shape, Oli stepped up to the challenge and impressed on his return, i was pretty happy to nail a couple of tough (well tough by my standards, easy peasy for the real climbers) problems on the competition wall and get close on a couple of others. Definitely went much harder than previous visits, have to bring the Johnsons along more often! By then end couldn't hold on to anything at all, would have struggled to climb a ladder. Saw Jenny quietly knock off a few good problems as well.

Anybody seen Beatrice Kideau (Uma Thurman) trying to eat rice in the second Kill Bill film? That was me at dinner last night....

Wednesday Sep 10

Note
(sick) (rest day)
No miraculous recovery yet, a big day of eating and sleeping to come...
C • climbing tomorrow? 4

Tuesday Sep 9

Note
(sick) (rest day)
Was it over 5 hours of training over the weekend plus some climbing? Was it the quiet? beers on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights? Was it the 5 hours of sleep on Saturday night? Hmm, it was probably a bit of each that lead to this damn cold! Hopefully a day in bed tomorrow will sort me out.
C • Get well soon 7

Monday Sep 8

Note
(rest day)
I have a sneaking suspicion that I may have overdone things a bit over the weekend burning the candle at both ends. Well needed rest day today and an easy week to come...

Sunday Sep 7

Running (Helvellyn run) 1:10:00 [1] 10 km (7:00 / km)
shoes: montrail phoenix
Ran the Helvellyn Triathlon run course in reverse cheering on all the competitors. We even got some sunshine near the top! jarred my foot at the top just before the descent so was then in a bit of discomfort as I very slowly descended.

Saturday Sep 6

Running (Beer Trail) 2:30:00 [2] 16 km (9:22 / km)
shoes: montrail phoenix
A Cumbrian tradition apparently the groom spent the morning of his wedding running around the fells searching for a hidden cache of beer with nothing bu OS grid references as a guide.

From the Youth Hostel up to the saddle between Cat Bells and Maiden Moor then across to a sheep fold for the first checkpoint. The Grid reference had disappeared off the tape but luckily Rich was there to tell us the next point. The route took us over High Spy then down to Robins Fold for the next grid reference at which point RobB, Boyzone and I took a terrible route choice down a treacherous rocky slope to get down to the track and then down to Dalts Wood and finally across to the Beer cache near Surprise View. Luckily Rich was there to show us where the beer was, no such luck for Oli and Neil who had run off ahead and were then unable to find the cache and returned to the hostel empty handed.

Friday Sep 5

Running (Bleaberry Fell) 1:30:00 [3] 12 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: montrail phoenix
Straight up the ridge behind the Youth Hostel and then across and up to the top of Bleaberry Fell. The plan was to continue along the ridge to the next peak but after I was nearly blown off the top I quickly decided to come back down the same way. When i got down to the ridge I turned the other way and ran around the woods and back along the lake.
Climbing (Keswick Indoor) 1:30:00 [0]
The weather was pretty terrible so we decided that some indoor climbing would be the way forward, some great routes and particularly tough overhangs and a really cool actual rock like wall with a big fake crack running all the way up it.

Thursday Sep 4

Running (Honister Pass) 1:00:00 [3] 9 km (6:40 / km) +400m 5:27 / km
shoes: montrail phoenix
from honister pass straight up to dale head then down to dale head tarn and then past another tarn before contouring across to the same path back down to honister.
C • Wish you were here... 1

Wednesday Sep 3

Gym (S10) 1:00:00 [1] 3 km (20:00 / km)
Jog down to the gym and home and a little bit on the treadmill. Was shown around and had an induction that took about 5 minutes then did some leg press, bench press, upright row, squats, leg extension. Nice easy reintroduction into strength training.

Tuesday Sep 2

Running intervals (Hallamshire Track Session) 1:10:00 13 km (5:23 / km) +100m 5:11 / km
shoes: adidas adistar control
Warm up and drills then 5 x 3.30 with 90 seconds recovery (although the recoveries stretched out a bit). Whoever lead got to choose the route around the track and up and down the banks etc. The last couple were fun as Camel took us through the bushes...

Good session, would have to be the best I've done since I moved to Sheffield.

Did a lap with Dave around the bowl to cool down then watched Kel and Kathy give a demonstration of their Wednesday night street dancing routine.
C • 'wednesday night street dan... 2

Monday Sep 1

Running (Rivelin loop) 40:38 [2] 7 km (5:48 / km) +205m 5:04 / km
shoes: adidas adistar control
Easy loosener with Kel, down through Bole Hill Park and Walkley bank to the bottom end of Rivelin and then ran up to where Rivelin crosses the A57 and back home past the stables and cemetary. Conned Kelly into coming by saying it was only going to be 30 minutes but she enjoyed it so much that she hardly noticed that we ran over time.
