THe Hardest biking I have ever done in my entire life! 1000's of meters of climb on dirt roads, and "roads" is a generous term, many of these would have been a wide trail at best on an O map. Sadly I DNF'd. The heat was certainly a factor, and I did not manage my hydration as carefully as I should have. There is no way to describe how hard the climbs were, I'd spend 10-20 minutes in my lowest (26-28) gear crawling up the dirt roads, and at times the dirt was soft so it added more friction and work.
The bike worked admirably, and the tires were perfect.
And the countryside and views spectaculiar.
Many , many DNFs, in fact I talked to no one who finished in the allotted time (12 1/2 hours), but some one did I'm sure.
Passed numerous people with flats, one serious crash requiring an ambulance, and many riders just flat on their back along the road side.
At the end I was lamenting to one woman (who DNF'd , but finished last year) that there was only one good training hill nearby my house, the road up Big Blue, 400'. So she said, "So how many times did you do that,... 20?".
Definately I was a wimp.....next year I will be back.... let's see 20 times 11 minutes for a round trip on Big Blue (although next year I should go the ski slope), yeah!, 3 hours and 40 minutes of repeats on Big Blue, maybe then I will be ready.....

To the library while the sisters are out boogie boarding at the beach.
Bike seems ready to go, although it mashed the chain between the spokes and the rear freewheel on a downshift. I must remember to put on the spoke guard.

Rented a double kayak with Jude to explore the bay near Orleans. The Nauset marsh is definately a candidate for a canoe O.
