Saturday Dec 15

Event: Valley Forge Battle to the End O' Marathon

orienteering 5:41:59 [3]** 30.0 mi (11:23 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Trail
A great event which was well worth traveling for.
Missed the start by about 20 seconds. As I was jogging to the start, the rubber band holding the control card holder snapped. No time to get back to the car, I searched the registration table for something, but just stuffed it in my pocket, thinking it could easily be lost easily. Grabbed the maps, again thinking, "I could easily lose one of these out there".
Didn't look at the map, just headed off, past numerous people looking at their maps.... Saw Ross up ahead on the hill and figured that was the place to go. As I crested the hill, I figured i had to do something about these two maps. I opened the big map case, and stuffed the smaller map in, now at least i had only one thing to hang onto.
Followed into 1 and was navigating to 2. Along the way I decided to hang my control card holder from the lanyard I had recently installed on my epunch.
This worked really well throughout the race, and I never had the epunch on my finger at all.
Up ahead I saw Hillary and Peter. I wanted to speed up a bit to catch them, but never was able to muster the energy, last saw them leaving 4. Headed to 5 near Christina, with an AR fellow up ahead. Had no idea how to get 5 as I looked at the google map. Saw some people standing around as I arrived in the area. Noticed the tunnel leading to 6, and just kept going till I saw that , then headed back to 5. Seemed to be on my own after that, until around #9 I saw the AR and Christina coming up. AR passed me and Christina and I arrived at 11 together.

paved running 14:26 [4]2.0 mi (7:12 / mi)

Achilles and hamstrings definately getting more limber, increasing my stride and speed. The marathon may produce a setback, but I am hoping the next few months will see further improvement.
