| Orienteering race (ACT Sprint Champs) 18:17 [4] *** | ||
| shoes: Brooks T3 Racers | ||
| ACT Sprint Champs at ANU.
Lost bit of time at a number of controls through bad nav choices and hard to read map detail. Would great if it was mapped at ISSM standards. Beat acejase by 14 secs, the one thing that kept me going.

| Played the whole game at GD. We only had 6 players so had no WD which meant i was kinda marking two. Did a lot of running.
Took it out 29-11 though.

| I'll join the chorus of people talking this map down. The rock can be hard to run amongst but i always forget just how much fallen timber there is and its the real killer. One bad thing about Eric Andrews mapping is that if he doesnt like the area he wont map to his potential and that definitely happened at Seldom Seen (i think he also have been sick when mapping the area?).
Anyway i started off like yesterday, conservatively, maybe a bit much much and was fairly slow thorugh the first few controls. Lost time at 4 when i was bit too high and got the approach wrong. 5 was a dangerous control and although i was telling myself to slow down and pick off features i just didnt do and got bamboozled. Was near the control finally when Andy came along, apparently i had past him before the first control. Toph and Bradshaw also punched at roughly the same time. The pack was quite funny to be a part of, Andy and i were virtually jogging while the other boys seemed to be pushing hard butr we always go to the control at roughly the same time. They picked it up going down to the 10th so i decided to hang on a bit and draged Andy with me. Lost them at the 12th as Kez went through me. Lost Andy going down into 13, saw him again when i got near 14. Got the last loop with a few small errors but not much and was happy to finish and be out of the rocks and logs! i was suprised that when i got going at some pace i felt alright, the morning was looking shaky after the $3 schooners in Cowra last night. New Balance 790's are great shoes as well, get some!! Not sure what ill do now. I enjoy orienteering as much as ever really but at the moment results dont mean a thing to me.

| Started off conservatively through first two controls and lost concentration way too early, losing 30sec or so at the third. Leaving 3 i made sure i was exiting well and picking of features. Stupidly i then looked at the vegetation to nav. off, then it went to shit. At one stage in my circles i saw the control and decided it wasnt mine. I came back 45sec and realised it was. a 50 sec leg turned into 4.25.
The next wasnt much better as i lost another minute. At this point i was worried about the juniors catching me as i didnt want to lead any into controls or anything (although given my run up until then i wouldnt have been much help). Thought about turning it into a Dave Sheperd run but decided to keep going and then make a decision when/if i a got caught. Managed an ok run for the rest of the race, didnt lose much more time really, that is until i punched the wrong 4th last control. All in all a shithouse result but i actually enjoyed the run, how could you not in Gumble. Oh and as i was lumbering to the finish i heard Blair say over the speaker that i was returning from a long-term injury....Didn't know i class be a fat bastard as an injury...

| Got to the game on time this week so got a full 40mins in.
Swapped around a bit, Centre first quarter, then Wing Attack second, Goal Defence third, finished back in Centre. Summing up my game would be 70% running, 25% Flair, 5% skill. Had a ball and just kept on running all game. Back will be sore tomorrow! We got up through 15-5

| Training at Glendale with Jules, Kez, Craney and Grace.
Good run, pretty much just following at the start, we were running fairly easily in a group. I fell off the back as we went up the hill and it gave me the chance to do some navigating, not that i did much and fluffed about amongst some short legs. We met back up and did some loops on a 1:10 000 version of the map and i manage to get some good control flow going. Ran back as a group.

| A battle!
Caught Ryan roughly a minute when i saw him leaving control 3 as i was approaching it. I messed around their for 20sec finding the control and never saw him again. Ran most of the course by myself, only saw guys at the end when Rob and Simon flew by me. While i felt lethargic i didnt think i was as slow as i was in the end. Lost lots of time messing around in control circles and not concentrating A real disappointing run

| Quite happy with my run really. Kept my head steady and focused and i think made all the right route choices, except for 10 where i went to the south of the little lake instead of north. Maybe route to 3 to the best but really unsure, it would have been close.
Happy with result too, although i felt pretty shit running everyone else was making mistakes and losing time so i was able to hold an ok position. Coughed up enough shit to feed a small country which wasn't the most pleasant thing to do while running round a uni! Great area and course from Liggo. hopefully the map with be up on Routegadget?

| Lost 30sed on the first control and never really got smooth again in my orienteering. Tried to get some rhythm going through 3 and 4, picked up Torgeir here which got me a bit distracted. We were together for the rest of the course, i never really could get a kick going to try and drop him.
Floundered about at different stages of the course and i was really buggared coming back near the finish for the last loop. Lost a 1:30ish in the loop which was really annoying and my fat arse was already dragging my time down. Not too happy with it really, i knew coming into the w/e i'd struggle physically but i wanted to navigate well which has been a strength over the last couple of years.

| Just a loosen up more than anything,threw in a few surges and sprints, a couple of short hills. Bit of stretching at the end. The cold was still hampering me a lot with some nice wheezing happening.
Went to the St Kilda v Carlton game at Telstra Dome. AFL is so impressive with 45 500fans to a club game! Sat in the very top row but still had a great view. At quarter time the very european looking bloke next to me turned and said "Can u please explain this game to me" i did my best, not sure if it helped or not!

| Note | ||
| Running nose came on strong last night from nothing and have felt terrible all day. Have to try to get out tonight for a run and see how i go. Doesnt bode well for the weekend, this wont help when im dragging my fat arse around the long. | ||
