| Note | ||
| A really good weekend of orienteering, great formats, great courses and good areas!
Maybe we should have a prize for NOL race of the year?
| C • how would it be judged? 10 | ||
Sunday Mar 30 | ||
| Orienteering (NOL Long - Sparrow Hill) 1:31:05 [4] *** 15.76 km (5:47 / km) | ||
| ahr:172 max:187 shoes: New Balance 790 (2) | ||
| As soon as i woke this morning(late thanks to my phone changing with asking me) i knew i was in trouble for today. My legs were stuffed, especially the left hammie.
Lost a little time at the first, like a few people, in the low vis pine then went lactic after the quick start. Was starting to get ok and into a rhythm near 4 then i went over on my ankle slightly. Call of nature came on the way to 8, shows how slow i was going as it never comes when you're running hard and concentrating. Finally started moving a bit better from here on Ran most of the rest of the race with Lee and parts with Nick. Let Lee go at the end after momentarily thinking i could kick, i soon discovered i couldnt. Then John N came in beihind me and forced me to push it till the end which was good cause Nick came in from the other loop just behind me and Jim was chasing me down.

| Orienteering race (ASC Galaxy - UC) 14:43 [5] **** 3.29 km (4:28 / km) | ||
| ahr:186 max:193 shoes: Brooks T3 Racers | ||
| Was hoping to have a good one as i go to uni here! No troubles at all nav wisely really, lost 5 sec or so deciding whether or no to go under the pass that was tough to read.
Struggled running, couldnt get it into top gear, at some stages i was thinking ok now just go for it but i couldnt. Happy with 12th, and to beat Hoggster.
| Orienteering race (NOL - Mixed Relay) 10:07 [5] **** 2.08 km (4:52 / km) | ||
| ahr:184 max:191 shoes: Brooks T3 Racers | ||
| First leg of mixed relay with Fel in the Stingers third team. Started first and the mass start was pretty intense, didnt really get my head switched on until the 4th control and then i started pushing it. It was bloody good un with people everywhere and the courses were quite good, though a little to different for a relay.
| ||
| Orienteering race (NOL - Mixed Relay 2) 9:22 [5] **** 1.97 km (4:45 / km) | ||
| ahr:184 max:191 shoes: Brooks T3 Racers | ||
| Second loop after 10min rest, was very tired after the first control and just tried to hold onto robbie. One route choice error for maybe 10 sec lost? This format was great, cant wait for it to be back next year.
We ended equal 8th after some great runs from Fel and cool sprint finish with Stingers 2 (Rob-Bree) saw fel catch her and punch at the same time!

| A pretty clean run at a sloe pace.
Started 30ish sec behind Hoggster, 8 behind Blair and 50 in front of Reuben. Just wanted to sit behind them but Blair took a while to get through the fence and Hoggster was slow into the first. Reubs caught us at 2. Together to the split at 7 where Blair and i went south, Andy and Reubs north. They were quicker and i was hanging onto the back till 9 then i snapped and lost em. Struggled through the last few the only control code i checked was number 15, 174. Finished in 11th (shep pulled out after putting his thumb up Kerrin's butt to really piss him off). Turns out i didnt punch 15 properly and mp'ed. Shit. What a great Easter, an average sprint, a cancelled course due to a bunch of clowns, and a mp. Oh well classic day was good and the courses were good.

Sunday Mar 23 | ||
| Orienteering long (Easter - Day 2) 1:43:31 [4] **** 14.56 km (7:07 / km) | ||
| ahr:175 max:187 shoes: Asics X-Country Spikes | ||
| Not many people expected me to pull one out on the long day, myself included, so i was definitely happy with this run.
Was second last starter with only Blair behind me and the plan was to keep him off for as long as possible then hold on as long as possible! Steady through the first 3 then held strong along the long 4th and fought through the rock to 10. Caught sight of a group of Lorenzo, Reuben and a qld guy. Stayed high coming out of 10 and though id lose them but then by 11 we were all together, was good to run with a group. At 19 Reubs and i were slightly ahead of Lorenzo, we came around the hill and he went low, i went high but he was right. I tried to pick it up to catch back up to him, dropping Lorenzo in the process. Was only 50m off Reub's tial coming out of 22 and took a risk which didnt pay off, losing 2min to 23 then never saw him again, lost a small bit through the final few controls just through trying to push it and losing concentration thinking about finishing. Never saw Blair :) Beat Hoggster :)

| Well im very happy that my best run of the weekend didnt count....
Complete debacle by the organisers in putting out the controls from Day 3 early. Apart from that i had a pretty good run, lost a little time early on through hesitations and slight errors heading towards the circle. Good course on a so-so area.
| Running warm up/down 15:00 [3] | ||

| Wasnt expecting much speed wise but was hoping to have a clean run given i know the area fairly well :)
Knew where the first control was just by reading the desciption :) Then the useless number 2 and then came three, i lost 45 secs! Luckily i went near the Siamangs so i knew exactly where i was :) Erred a little towards 8 and then 9, probably lost 1.05 all up but wasnt too unpleased with it.

| Didnt enjoy this one.
Legs were pretty stuffed from yestie which was kinda expected. Got first two ok but then my head was blank and i fucked around till i eventually got 3, same thing happened at 5. Had a drink at 6, poured Shep one too (i think i should get a cut of his $100). Stuck with Shep for the first long leg, coming back across was not having fun and thought of pulling the pin. The worst thing was i couldnt look forward to fun navigation in the granite, it just look like long slogs along the side of hills to easy control locations. I wasnt wrong. Usually if you push through and finish you're happy because you did, not this time, it was a waste of time. The second last control was just annoying, i pictured the setter - "mmmm ive just put them through 500m of climb, whats next? Oh ill taken them up five more contours to a shit control site on the edge of a clearing" Anyway, as you have have guesses i didnt enjoy it

| First NOL of the year and i wasnt expecting much really given my shape.
Drafted into the Stingers No 1 team and i was feeling the pressure! Kez has made a good observation that my sledging and fitness are inverse proportion to each other :), he certainly copped it today but had a killer run! Robbie had a killer second leg to bring us in with the pack and i was heading out just behind Bruce & Waz. My thought was too hang on and hope i may have something left in the tank for a surge at the end. Seemed to get ahead but then a mistake, i read the blue north line as the creek! brought Waz and Bruce into the 3th the same time as me. I soon figured Bruce and i had the same variation and decided to just sit on him, knowing i couldnt match him physically. It seemed to work as i was able to stay in touch as he made tiny wobbles into controls etc. We had seemed to running well and hadnt made any errors and i was sure we would be in front of Waz but coming back into the Pivot control the crafty old buggar was there. It hit the confidence and then i lost a little on the next via a slower route, losing sight then 30sec or so on the following control. Kept going though the spectator area i could Waz ahead and was pushing but went a little higher then needed and then lost small seconds in bushes over the last few controls to cancel the ground i was gaining. Bloody good fun race, a great way to start the season, though it was a 4th result. It was good to have people saying 'good race' rather then 'good on you for finishing'.....

| 10'22, 9'38, 10'10. O ints set by Shep around Felled Timber. Good area and nice simple fairly quick orienteering which is what i needed.
Quite happy with how i felt. Cut short last pack running longer loop after i started developing a blister banged a knee
