Great turn out in Roseville for the third edition of the most anticipated orienteering event of the year.
Was always gonna start slow and the first one had a bit of an overgrown track and a few of us took a while to finish
Second one from the weir was quick from the start (which is against the SLWC by-laws) and i was never in it, just rolling along the back.
After a bit of a whinge i tried to get the gentlemen's agreement working, these youngsters need to learn a thing or too! SLow jog along the golf course for the start of the third then got in just behind the lead group along the single track. Thought about having a crack but the pace was ramping up pretty quickly and i pulled back just before the action started.
Post maccas (hot cakes & frozen coke) the slow jog was enforced until the final five controls and i had a shot, was just of fat rat's shoulder coming out of the final bush for the sprint but face planted and lost the chance. that was the closest i got, a 4th!
The rest were simply me staying the back pack trying not to finish to far behind. Had to stop at Crows Nest shops for some band aids to stop the captain giving me bleeding nipples!
While it felt easier to finish then last year i definitely had no 4th or fifth gear to get a sprint in. Cracker effort from all the boys to finish, especially Matt Hill who smashed his previous longest run!
