Orienteering race (Club Meet) 27:58 [4] *** 4.5 km (6:13 / km) +130m 5:26 / km
spiked:29/32c shoes: Asics Gel-Trail Attack 3
HKOC Event - Central Kwai Chung Park, Kwai Fong, Hong Kong.
A Course: 4.5km, 32c, 130m (1:2000, 1.2m)
28C, 80%+, mostly cloudy.
Attended HKOC's practice event, where they were test running the China Health e-punching system. It's sort of a cross between SI and EMIT - with SI-like units and a finger card (smaller and lighter than the EMIT brick) that you place atop the boxes to "punch." The race format was essentially a long sprint with lots of controls in an urban park. I didn't notice the map scale was 1:2000 until after the fact, but that had no negative effect on my nagivation. My mistakes all came in the second half of the course, where I failed to read ahead and plan my routes, perhaps partly due to tiredness.
I ran with the bandaged hand and took it somewhat easier on the descents. It was fine. There were lots of stairs and steep hills, so speed wasn't very fast. I mostly just followed the paved paths, but did take the opportunities to shortcut through the woods when appropriate. This may have helped me post the winning time for the day.
Note
Another no exercise, yet not very restful day. Played best man at a good friend's wedding. On my feet a ton. With lots of activities/movements, the r-hand started hurting more in the evening. Stitches are scheduled to come out on Monday. Fingers crossed that the wound is healing appropriately.
Note
No real training, but a whole bunch of walking. About 4hrs worth, I think. One thing is certain, there's no lack of stairs or steep slopes over here...
Stretching warm up/down 5:00 [0]
(injured)
Brief stretch of the legs after arriving at HKG. 14+hrs on the plane made for some tight hamstrings!
Running (Road) 4:00 [2] 0.47 mi (8:30 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 4
~68F, clear - light running to and from the MTR station. Feels good to run, even if only for a bit. But I should probably refrain from exercising a few more days.
