Note

Today is my Ultimate night.

We played for all of 6 minutes before a teammate fell gravely ill. Hopefully, he is able to fully recover thanks to the efforts of David, Max, Peter, and I as well as Vancouver's outstanding EMS and Firefighting personnel. The report from the hospital was optimistic but nothing is for certain until you are conscience and out.

PLEASE make sure that you have filled out the emergency card that all smartphones are equipped with, PLEASE let your teammates know how you are feeling always and if you have ANY conditions or medical issues no matter how infrequent. Get your first aid if you can and review regularly.

Remember as well that first responders may suffer from shock even if they are calm and composed during the event and this is especially true of individuals who are not expressly trained for these scenarios. Offer your support, time, and compassion for what they may be going through as well. A hug and an ear go a loooooong way.

Our team will be thinking long and hard about what aspects we were well prepared for and what we will be modifying for the future. As well we spoke briefly with the VUL (Vancouver Ultimate League) about requiring teams to have emergency contact info for all players and something on the player database on the VUL website.

Dog walk with Tucker, Indy, and Angela's new pupper George! They're going to be the best of friends! Lots of playing in the shade and cooling off in the water :)

(sick)

Was going to bike to/from work but decided that a sleep-in and full belly before work would probably serve me better. Felt heaps better throughout the work day!

O-Training with Jen. I was gifted the elite course from Ben as I missed the January WJR even though Ben planned it on my B-Day :P The course was two loops on two maps so we each took one!

I ran the first loop, with the dogs so numerous distractions and cool down breaks as Tucker has a bit too much coat to be up to these kinds of shenanigans in the heat. Tried to work on what I had messed up on Thursday night.

Feeling pretty good for having woken up at 4:30 and not really getting back to sleep. The cold was present but I wasn't really running hard enough to tax it. No soreness from Thursday which is a mystery to me.

Wandered all around PSP and then around Southlands. Part of my walking involved carrying a puppy... for ah strength training... yeah :D I was not sore at all from yesterday so that makes me nervous for it all hitting me tomorrow :/

Summer colds are yucky but so far I've been alright I just need it gone before WCOC!

Hurried hike up the Chief trailing behind Nathan and Eric walking with a woman from Sweden that the Ellis' invited. I was not feeling well on this hike and I thought it was because of the heat but really it was the start of a head cold....

Orienteering 1:06:11 intensity: (22 @0) + (1:33 @1) + (8:35 @2) + (24:53 @3) + (29:53 @4) + (55 @5) *** 3.34 km (19:50 / km) +255m 14:21 / km

Nothing Orienteering related happened on the Chief but IF it were to have happened this is probably how it would have gone down for me ;P

S-1 haha poorly done, lots of walking, found the marshes first got a cheer from Nathan and Graeme when I punched :P At least I sorta caught Jiri - YAY surprise Jiri!!
1-2 good but cautious
2-3 alright
3-4 solid but hesitant
4-5 overran it a bit but caught myself at the boulder
5-6 good
6-7 good
7-8 good
8-9 a little too high and found 10 first
9-10 turned and went back to 10 - easy
10-13 I came down off of 3rd fine and fast but then tried to be fancy and more direct and then couldn't quite execute so abandoned and took the safe route but all that took about the same amount of time as Nathan doing 8-10
13-14 came at it from below
14-15 stayed high then went straight down at it
15-16 went over and then down the "finish chute" at it
16-F straight run up the granite to punch - hot slog

SO MUCH FUN!! Haha lots of walking and taking in the views :D

Hike back down the chief. Sadly killed my watch data recording before Nathan and I sprinted/raced back to the car as that would have really made my stats more impressive :p

GPS crapped out near the end (likely when I paused it briefly?) annoying.

Yummy dinner at The Shady Tree :D

Wonderful map discussion with Robyn and Bruce! Going over my Iceland courses/terrain and then Robyn's from the World Masters. I can't wait to set off and explore more terrain, run more courses, and meet new clubs!

Sadly this was followed by a trip to the storage locker... #toosoon #toohot
