After working 12 days straight, it was time for an adventure. Mt Cabot and Waumbek in a day. Drove north, starting early, and got to the slightly snowy trailhead at 8:30. A couple of inches had fallen overnight, with more higher up. Cold at the start, but not enough to have frozen the wet spots solid.

Spent the first mile dodging wet spots on the trail, but at the river crossing one foot slipped and I got a wet (and subsequently cold) foot which never really warmed up. Climbing up through Bunnels Notch there was a lot of wetness too, most of which I avoided, and then things started to get more solid. Never needed the microspikes as the snow cover generally provided enough traction. Coming back down things were a little more sloppy as the sun and foot traffic had worked on the slightly frozen spots

Beautiful day out, blue skies, little wind, and just around freezing. Perfect to motivate me to work hard enough to stay warm, but not wm enough that I was sweating too much. Saw a surprising number of other hikers on the trail, for a remote peak

Drove round to waumbek, after getting and consuming half a pizza in Gorham. Legs were not so happy about up on this second 4000 footer of the day, There had clearly been lots of foot traffic earlier in the day (and I met about 25 other hikers during my time out) as the snow was a lot more compacted.

Great views of the Prezzies from the top of Starr King, and a fun run through the snow from there over to the top of Waumbek. Ran a lot of the down, though there were some slippery tricky spots where I had to take it slow
