Running race 3:43:54 [5] 26.2 mi (8:33 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Red
Stone Cat Trail marathon. Cold.
Was OK apart from a spell around 15 to 20 miles when I got bad cramps in my hamstrings which meant i couldn't run up hills, or quite as quick on the flats and downs, so as I result I got very cold. A few people passed me at this point (not sure how may were marathoners and how may were 50 milers) Got through it around 20 miles. and no one passed me after that.
Lessons learned
1) wear a hat, even if I feel OK 'coz if you slow down you get cold
2) eat real food at the aid stations. Just gu doesn't do it for me
3) go out even slower - probelm is with this race the for the marathon start loop you want to be at the front or you get caught up at all the puddles, and then when you start to catch the 50 milers you are constantly speeding up to pass them and slowing down when you can't get past (single track) so it is hard to get into a rhythm
