running warm up/down 40:00 [3]

Before and after first leg of Venla...freakin' warm! And, rather annoyingly, the warm up and start area was quite closed off from coaches, etc. so it was hard to get water. Feeling a little groggy and lacking energy before while warming up...maybe the heat. We haven't had so many days of warm, sunny weather in Gtbg...though the last two hill workout days have been warm (so that was good prep).

First leg at Venla (again)..but with more people and a higher starting place = 3 rows I think. Though I do not have enough of a kick right now to take a big advantage of the higher starting position; and I actually want to read my map out of the start compared to at least ½ the people around me...they were running with the map like a baton. Took a very safe attack point to the first control, but with extra climb. Felt slow in the beginning, but part of that was because got stuck behind people...it is so hard to get around people. Clean until #5...took another safer, but hillier and not quite direct attack to the control. Lost some time there I think (about a minute). Clean again...little bobble on #10 (15 seconds), but then larger mistake to #11 (close to a minute). Came too much to the right, and then a bit hesitant once came the correct distance but no control...I was about 100 meters or so to the right of where I should have been. Relocated quickly, but frustrating. I think partially due to tiredness. Did not take water at water point, should have done. All in all, satisfied with the run...would have been nice to have something at the end to kick with, and to have placed higher than the starting number, but it is an improvement on last year.
Team ended up 140th, I was 158th after 1st leg out of 828 teams, 5.19 behind the leader.
