running warm up/down 30:00 [3]

Warming up (20 mins) and down (10 mins) before and after 3rd leg run at 25-manna. Sunny but cold. I was rather cold warming up, but I think I was actually overdressed for the actual race (had a polypro layer on). Felt sluggish even in the warm-up, and mind was trying to get settled for concentration as there were to be loads of people in the forest.

Legs felt sluggish during warm-up and it took until after the first control for my eyes to stop tearing so that I could read the map properly (which made the first control a little interesting). But actually I managed to get my head into from the start. Clean to the first 2 controls. Bounced off the other gaffle on the 3rd (maybe 15 secs). Clean again, though slogging it until the 8th control, where I doubted myself and dropped low. Then clean again until the 10th, where I was not concentrating coming out of the previous control and ended up too far left and then could not relocate. Grrr...lost minutes. Frustrating. Really had to sniff out the lines through the forest in places. 40th place overall in my gaffle, 8 mins back the Halden runner who had the fastest split. I did not feel strong at all - did not feel able to push anything. Maybe the bad training week meant my legs were not rev-ed up for this race.
The event PM has estimated winning time at 30 mins which is hilarious because only one person ran under 40 mins (and only by a few seconds). Most top times were around 10 mins per km.
