Trail Running 23:22 [2] 3.03 mi (7:43 / mi) +46m 7:22 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel DS Trainer

Easy round the golf course before work and after catching up on last night's Olympic action.
8 PM

Hill Running warm up/down 9:15 [3] 1.18 mi (7:50 / mi) +58m 6:48 / mi
shoes: Inov 8 X-talon 190

Brisk warm up with some drills and stretching after.

Hill Running intervals 53:53 [5] 4.91 mi (10:58 / mi) +750m 7:27 / mi
shoes: Inov 8 X-talon 190

Long reps on Allermuir. Did the climb from the pumphouse to the summit 3 times. Back a slightly different way. Very easy descent to get a good recovery. Started each rep fairly relaxed and pushing on later. Very tough session. Good to get some long sustained climbs in. Definitely one to repeat and come back to.

Getting harder each time but managing to keep a decent effort despite slowing a bit.

Each rep was 1.05 miles with 250m ascent
Times: 11:15, 11:28, 11:49 (times to the col with capelaw were 7:45, 7:53, 8:05)

Hill Running warm up/down 20:06 [1] 2.19 mi (9:11 / mi) +16m 8:59 / mi
shoes: Inov 8 X-talon 190

Very easy home. Knackered.

Trail Running 50:17 [2] 6.2 mi (8:07 / mi) +117m 7:40 / mi

Felt rubbish first thing this morning but improving as the day went on. Easy round Braids. Lots of nettle stings. Feeling better as the run went on as well.

Hill Running 2:15:00 [2] 13.41 mi (10:04 / mi) +911m 8:19 / mi
shoes: Inov 8 Mudclaw 300

Feeling pretty tired and the horrible weather made this very tough going. Up castlelaw then it was so bad I decided to drop down to the road. Along to the Howe then a wind assisted climb up Carnethy. Dropped steeply down to the road again then home from there. Moving very slowly towards the end.

Hill Running 32:16 [2] 3.7 mi (8:43 / mi) +191m 7:31 / mi
shoes: Inov 8 Mudclaw 300

Run to test things out and see if the niggle persisted. Easy uphill then hard down. Quad a bit tender after the massage but no pain apart from that.

Hill Running warm up/down 18:18 [2] 2.18 mi (8:24 / mi) +111m 7:15 / mi
shoes: Inov 8 X-talon 190

Hill Running intervals 40:00 [5] 3.66 mi (10:56 / mi) +373m 8:18 / mi
shoes: Inov 8 X-talon 190

Carnethy hill reps. 5,4,3,2,1 with a 30s rep inbetween each of the longer ones and 3X30s to finish. Feeling alright and in front on most of them.

Had thought about missing this given the recent niggle but I was feeling pretty good today and uphill running normally doesn't bother it. Ben Nevis is getting fairly close as well and wasn't going to miss the chance to get a decent hill session in.

Hill Running warm up/down 5:00 [1] 0.6 mi (8:20 / mi)

Trail Running 30:58 [2] 3.48 mi (8:54 / mi) +140m 7:55 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel DS Trainer

Glute not great again yesterday but improved today and felt ok to run on. Mostly fine. A bit sore when running downhill or when trying to run faster on the flat. No issues uphill. Booked in for a massage tonight.
6 PM

Note

Massage this evening to try and sort things out. Turns out glute pain is due to a hyperstretched quad muscle. Same injury that I picked up in Iceland last Summer. So it turns out that it's probably not anything specific that I've done training wise that's caused it and it will probably just pop back into it's injured state every now and then for no real reason. Claire also had laid into my calves and worked out some stuff in there. Had a go at me for how I run uphill and that's causing the issues there. Also likely the reason for the sore/tight achilles last week. Will see how things go from here but the advice is not to ignore any niggles and just hope they go away and instead go back and get them fixed otherwise it's more likely to do something a bit more painful like this and the quad will be more prone to going back into it's injured state

Note
(rest day)

Day off after 36 days of running. Longest stretch ever. Bum very sore today. No clue why. No issues for ages. Fine during and after the race yesterday and awful all day today so not able to run. Hopefully will manage to get rid of it as quickly as it came.
