Neither of us had gotten the chance to recce the leg so as a warm up we ran it in reverse from Falkland. A bit wet and windy. Getting cold near the end

DB leg 3 with Andy. Was quite concerned before this that we wouldn't be too well matched and I was in for quite a painful day out but in the end things worked well together.

As always with relays I was a bit overexcited and set off a bit fast up the super steep first climb. Was apparent from early on that my legs were a bit heavy (in hindsight the full leg warm up was a bit too much for me but was worth it for the confidence on the route especially since Andy's map blew away and mine stayed in my bumbag) first climb was ok but struggled to get shifting again when we hit he contour near the top. After a bit more fast running we were moving well. Went past Ochils and moved into 3rd when they backtracked after missing a checkpoint. Struggling on the climb up towards West Lomond with heavy legs and was definitely holding Andy back a bit here. Eventually we hit the track then had nearly 5k of downhill on good paths ahead of us. I was running well and Andy was hanging off the back a bit.

Really good fun overall and happy with the run. 2nd fastest leg time and 3rd team overall. About a minute up on Shetts for the leg (2nd team) and 1:40 down on Westies. There was a shortcut between 11 and 12 we were told about after the recce but wasn't obvious during the race so stuck to the longer path route. Westies and Shetts got it so a little time lost there and I reckon there would have been a bit more time to be gained if I wasn't struggling on the climbs so much

Hill Running warm up/down 16:08 [1] 1.34 mi (12:02 / mi) +100m 9:46 / mi
shoes: Inov 8 X-talon 212 #4

Plod with Andy, Kenny and Matt to see the leg 4 runners come in and head back for some soup. Getting a bit bonky right at the end of this. Happy to get through a pretty long run with a race in it ok. Drank loads before but nothing during and had a wee bit of flapjack part way through the warm up.

Note
(rest day)

Feeling ok today. No ill effects from racing but still a little coldy so taking another day off to make sure its shifted. Out for a wee wander in the Pentlands with Kirsty instead. Most of the snow has gone overnight
