Cycling 45:00 [2]

Cycled to Stanton St. John and expored further, ending up at SU602103, seeing red-kite on way. Saw some birds I haven't been able to identify positively, but maybe siskins or possibly unusally coloured chaffinches/bramblings . (Looked a bit like rusty red yellowhammers with colourful bars on wings.) [Edit: Three siskins reportedly seen near Stanton St. John on 19.10.06, just a few days later.] Explored Hell Coppice, and saw a hare in field on other side. On way back to bike, saw a large group of tits feeding on edge of coniferous woodland - great tits, long-tailed tits, the odd coaltit and bluetit, and at least one firecrest! Also the odd Red Admiral and one Peacock butterfly.

Cycling 13:00 [2]

Cycled back through Stanton St. John to shepard's pools I'd been aiming to find. Nothing on northern pool; three swans and two little grebes on southern pool. Definitely somewhere to come back to later.

Cycling 22:00 [2]

And back to Oxford.
