Orienteering 1:23:47 [3] *** 8.06 km (10:24 / km) +130m 9:37 / km
shoes: VJ Falcons

GO District Event at Chobham Common.
Colin Dickson - 62:13, 6:39/km
BSG - 83:47, 135%, 8:57/km
Ran fast in places and put in some fast legs, beating Colin on 6 legs (+) and equal on 1 leg, but inconsistent - kept repeating mistakes. Having said that, the map was pretty dodgy in places, especially no. 18 where the wet ditch wasn't very visible on the map!
1 - Straightforward and visible.
2 - Made 90deg error when hit path
3 - Ok (+)
4 - Conused by paths and ended up heading NW. Completely lost, so ran W to find finish and relocate.
5 - Ok (+)
6 - Ok (+)
7 - Cut through green and didn't know which of the two tracks I'd ended up on. Decided I was probably on western track so ran east into terrain in search of eastern track. Wrong decision as it turned out that the track I'd been on was the eastern one. Tough running through terrain to control.
8 - Ok
9 - Ran to within 20m of 9, then tried to find 10's control feature at that location. Silly.
10 - Ok (+)
11 - Ok
12 - Ran through terrain in direction of control, hit path and followed it to hide before cutting across to control. (+)
13 - Minor disaster. Just missed it by a few metres and then headed even further west and away from marsh, having been distracted by someone else looking for it over there.
14 - Headed north to path, but ran straight across it. (Annoying at the time, but other people say it was almost invisible too.)
15 - Ok
16 - Ran straight and hit path close to bend near control. Thought I hadn't come far enough and saw guy who I'd been distracted by before rejoining track - so I followed him before clicking that I'd now come to far and that he had been coming out of the control when I saw him.
17 - Ok
18 - Ran to visible control on knoll/thicket before running back to correct control, who's feature wasn't visible on the map. (=)
19 - Straight and saw it from across terrain.
20 - Headed into heather slightly too far south.
21 - Ok
22 - Ok
23 - Came off path too early and got stuck in 1.5m high dead bracken.
24 - Ok
Finish - Followed girl in front along what looked like a promising path through the gorse. It fizzled out however, but luckily we burst through the gorse at the far end.
