So it’s been smoky in Bozeman for 3 weeks now — it started right around my 50k race. I’ve never been super sensitive to anything (I’m the sort of person who can eat pretty much whatever whenever before running and be fine), but this smoke has been really bothering me. Yesterday I sat outside for 3 hours and developed a headache and sore throat. Those two things have been pretty consistently coming on throughout the day for me — I wake up fine, but by the evening I’m not feeling great. For my quick trip to WA, skies were clear and I felt totally fine. It’s frustrating to be so affected and it’s depressing that the smoke has been here for so long, and probably will be throughout the rest of the summer. I have a big local trail race that I was excited to do in mid-August, but if the smoke doesn’t improve by then, I might have to drop it. Ugh. Hoping for clearer skies in Tahoe.

L knee has been feeling a bit funky after the PCT 30 miles. I’ve been icing.

Garmin won’t upload (I’ll try manually later), and it only caught the first 8 hours anyways, so manual entry it is.

White pass to Walupt lake on the PCT with my dad, with Old Snowy tacked on. My dad has a project of doing the whole WA section of the PCT, and he’s been making some serious progress the last couple years. This was a beautiful part of the trail through the goat rocks. We did Johnson and Hawkeye peaks a couple years ago, and this went right past those summits. The goat rocks are awesome! My dad tripped & fell 3 times: first time he just got really dirty, second time he caught himself on his right hand and bent his pinky finger backwards, and third time he (according to him) pulled his hamstring. That last one was 8.5 miles in, and he’s stubborn, so we kept going forward. I worry about him going out and doing big days like this alone! My left knee was extremely achey/sore from about mile 10-20, so we were a slow and sorry bunch for a while.

Terrace trail loop while home, making sure my legs still work before going out for a big one with my dad.

Air quality says it’s been better, mostly <100 AQI, but it sure looks smoky out, and we had several respiratory issue 911 calls yesterday that I’m sure were related to the smoke. Ugh. I’ve had an intermittent headache and sore throat lately — smoke? just a cold? a bit of both? Anyways, indoor core/strength again.

L knee was feeling funky, almost loose, after yesterday’s run/hike, so I opted for some body weight core & hip/knee/ankle strength.

Triple tree shakeout. Easy effort due to the smoke, the heat, and, well, since this was the second day that I was able to walk without limping. That meant walking up a majority of the uphill. Despite the fact that I was going considerably slower than I usually do on this loop, I must have looked speedy for some reason because two separate groups made comments, one at the bottom and one at the top.

Been a while, AP.

Short version: Siri tore her ACL, MCL, meniscus (x2) and bruised the heck out of her tibia/femur back in April, so our Mt. Rainier run is postponed at least until next year. However, I was still signed up for this 50k, so I ran it. Would recommend doing the proper training beforehand; I probably won’t move again for a little while.

However, when I start to move again, I plan on being more AP-active.
