Sourdough with Siri. Again with the nose-breathing, which really puts a limit on how quickly you can move. The smoke is slightly better, but not by much.

Hiking 3:57:58 [1] 6.21 mi (38:19 / mi) +752m 27:51 / mi

On the drive back from my run with Siri, Matt called me, told me he was going skiing today, asked if I wanted to pick up an extra shift, and then told me to think about it for a minute while he quickly answered a call from his boss.
*eye roll* WHY WOULD I WANT TO WORK IF I COULD SKI??!
I told him that skiing sounded like much more fun than working and if he needed a partner I’d go skiing with him. So, I went skiing today.
We hiked up to The Laser / The Ribbon (apparently the original name is the laser, but it was renamed the ribbon) on the NW side of Elephant. Left the trail when the snow was visible and shuffled up some scree to the bottom of the snow, where we ditched the packs, put on boots, and boot packed up the snow with skis over our shoulders. The skiing was maybe 200ft of vert, but we did it twice, and it was actually pretty steep and fun. The narrowest part required 3+ hop turns to get through. This would be really fun earlier in the season (June?). Waded in Blackmore lake to cool off on the way back down. The lake is maybe 2ft deep at its deepest, so it was a really pleasant relaxing temperature. For a ski trip, there was not a whole lot of snow, and not a whole lot of skiing, but it was a fun adventure. Saw some mountain bikers summit Blackmore, and they passed us on the way down — looked fun!
Forgot to start my watch, so missing ~2 miles at the start

Gallatin County Regional Park exploration adventure run with Siri. We met a cute puppy named Mira who wasn’t sure why we were running, and a cute baby cow who wasn’t sure what to make of our heel-clicking jumps. It’s extremely smoky in the gallatin valley today, even worse than yesterday. Making out the top of Baldy was challenging from town. I’m not sure if running in this much smoke is healthy, but we tried our best to breathe through our noses on this.

Peet’s hill. It’s been super smoky since Wednesday, and today up on Peet’s I couldn’t see the tobacco roots or Spanish peaks, the hyalite peaks were difficult to make out, and even the northern Bridgers were a little bit hidden in the smoke. It’s a bummer that fires are hitting MT now, after a full summer without them.

Highland glen trails from home, with Siri. I took a pretty epic dive off my bike when I tried to do a little jump. My weight was too far forward, and my front wheel wasn’t straight enough, so I flew off my bike like Superman and landed pretty hard, knocking the wind out of me. But I wasn’t really hurt, so I rolled over quickly to get back up, just in time to see my bike falling out of the sky after me, landing on top of me. Unfortunately, Siri was ahead of me and missed seeing my comedic crash. I’m really hoping the runner who was up on the trail across the gully witnessed it.

Peet’s hill from home. Beautiful golden light shining over campus and onto the mountains. Spanish peaks were awesome-looking, and the Bridgers weren’t bad either. This is such a good evening/sunset run!
