Chiltern Challenge Black retired 2/3 way round
Slept alright overnight but probably didn't fuel properly (burger and a pitta, then big bowl of cereal with maybe dodgey milk). Didn't take any food, forgot to run with any. Felt pretty tired and achey on my token warm up and knew to just settle in. First couple of controls okay, but was already feeling tired pretty early on. Tried to pace myself but after 6 controls at times I was struggling to run even on flat paths. Navigation was okay but not exactly sharp. The hill to 9 was horrendous, barely felt able to walk up it. At 10 Michael caught me and ran through me with another guy, saw him again at 11 then struggled on in the rain. The course went pretty close to the finish at 14 so my plan was to get to there and see how it was going. I was feeling knackered, not enjoying it and couldn't see it improving so bailed to the finish. My first retired/DNF for a while! Had thought beforehand that doing both nights and day in 14 hours or so may have been a lot. Definitely could have fuelled better overnight and carried some energy. Think it is still related to my fatigue though. Felt like I had been in a fight on Monday!
Fun trip into Henley after for lunch with a good group. The highlight of the day!
