Hampshire X-Country Champs Fairthorne Manor - 40th

One of my target races for the xcountry season and year. Had a difficult week and didn't really have my head in it for the racing. Had good preparation, almost 10 hours sleep, morning jog and stretching. Felt a bit aphrehensive knowing that it would be a tough race and it may hurt.

Had good space at the start and was hoping not to go mad. The three laps were very consistent (only 8s) depreciation. Kept trying to keep pushing and working hard against the people are around me. Could see a couple of Southampton guys ahead who I was trying to catch. Course was not as muddy as last year but tough enough! The hills in the golf course section were tiring.

I felt the laps went relatively quickly, broken down into sections. Had two thoughts to keep me going and working hard: 'you are fit' and 'remember all the training'. Seemed to work! A fair bit of support on the course which was nice and helped. Got told I was in 40th which was one of my goals. Still kept trying and was gaining on the Lordshill runner ahead on the sprint finish. Legs absolute jelly after I finished.

Very happy with 40th in the county. Good improvement on 64th last year. Now for an easy week before France next weekend.

Reps: strides and jog
Started on the track doing 100m on and off. Felt Iike it was too slippery, didn't feel any benefit and one was worried about slipping. Then went onto the grass, strides the length (200m), jog the ends. A bit slippery on the mud but felt better.
