Long Valley North - a tale of 2 halves
First half worried and unsteady on my twisted ankle from yesterday. Had twinged it twice in the warm up alone so very tentative through the terrain. Made 2 mistakes after 10 controls and got caught. One I was on line but then pulled up early and couldn't make anything fit. Almost gave up! Then a very silly mistake where I mis-remembered the map and turned the wrong way. Second half spurred in action, kept ahead of the guy who caught me. Managed to keep ahead of him all the way to the end. I think he was following and didn't want to lead out. One poor route choice in the contoured control pick (also had difficulties seeing the lines and numbers). First time I've taped my ankle and first time I've run in metal dobbed shoes. Think they felt alright but not great with the ankle.

Out and back on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal
Surveyor on tour. Right by the site so decided it would be easiest to not drive anywhere. Quite scenic and a nice flat route.

Found a great section of rocks for a bit of fell running practice! Couldn't find the path along the race course

Session: 3x6 tempo (60s) 3x2 10km pace (60s) 3x1 5km pace (30s) with 5 mins between sets. Tempo reps = 4mins/km. 2 min reps = 3:45-50. 1 min reps = 3:30.

Started the first tempo rep a bit faster than I have been running the previous week's so dialled it back a bit. All the tempos running solo which was the most fun. Then got into a group of 6 for the 10km pace reps and a group of 3 for the 5kms. Fun to be running quicker with other people. I wanted to make sure I had progression between the speeds of the reps. Debated stopping early by 3*1min didn't seem too bad.

I would be happy if I could actually run those paces for those distances!
