what an awesome race, definitely lived up to it's much hyped potential! unfortunately again i felt absolutely terrible, and again decided to forget about it and focus on the technical side. made a few small errors but how can you run a race on an area like that without missing anything. went a bit wayward on the "long" leg and spent a bit of time standing still working things out before i made any big mistakes. couldn't believe it when i came to the last control, it felt like i'd been running for about 10 minutes - time flies when you're having fun! and concentrating... pretty happy to come out of the forest in the lead too.

Orienteering race (Oceania Long) 1:35:00 [4] ***** 13.0 km (7:18 / km) +595m 5:57 / km
ahr:158 max:175 shoes: Inov8 Xtalon 212 (2)

ran this fairly conservatively, wanted to be clean with the orienteering but also wasn't sure of making the distance. pretty much achieved the first, one of the best technical races i've had in a long time. only lost maybe 30 seconds in total on the course, just one or two controls with a little bit of messing around in the circle. really didn't feel good physically but kept the pace pretty consistent, just not fast. had toph with me for maybe the 2nd half of the first loop, he kept dropping off on the clmibs but wuold straight away pull it back on the descents or when i slowed down being real careful into the controls. not sure of my route choices, ran straight to everything.

enjoyed the race - great area, good course plus all the gps and big screen etc, just disappointed to get sick...

technical session around the bottom of mount ainslie on the run in to work, about 50 "controls" in 5km or so (1:5000 map). ran some bits hard and some bits easier, kinda like a fartlek session. trying to get some flow going, worked ok.
