Orienteering race (Xmas 5 Days Day 5) 18:38 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Xtalon 212 (3)

Ultra sprint at Kippax Lake (in front of the SCG). There was 3 courses of about 1.2km each, which you could run at any time so I had a few mins jog recovery between each. There was 22-27 controls on each, 1:2000 map and no control codes or descriptions - with a 30sec penalty for a wrong control (with controls everywhere, even eg on both sides of a tree). There was even a maze section, with 3 or 4 controls in the maze on each course.

I got through without any wrong controls but also without any speed... Finished 4th on the day behind ultra sprint specialist josh b, and got the win overall by one point over Gernot. Great fun.

Orienteering race (Xmas 5 Days Day 4) 36:50 [4]

At darks common in lapstone. Ran good for the first half (till we crossed the road) then made a few mistakes and was pretty messy. Even ran off the map going to 22 and made a mistake again coming back on. Started struggling in the heat too but probably everyone did. Got the win by a bit over a minute to Gernot.

Terrible map today, very low resolution so some features were barely visible. Course overprint and on-map descriptions were perfect though, so it wasn't a bad print/printer... It looks like someone just imported a low res jpg or similar into purple pen etc and not bothered to check if the result was legible!

Easy ride thru the rnp then a real cruisy ride with tony on the new trails in Engadine, and back again (racing a thunderstorm home, the storm won by a couple of minutes).
