Northern Champs

Felt poor again going into this. Set off and wasn't focused again, not sure what's wrong with me can't seem to race at all this weekend. Losing time in small ways all the way though but just sooooo slow. Hated the 1:15, never had a problem running at this scale before but couldn't really read the detail and kept getting caught out by bits in the circle that I just couldn't see. Eddie caught me after a big mistake at 15, went through a couple of controls before he bonked then I dropped him moving the fastest I had all day (about 7min/km) and was scrappy and slow (dream combo) through the last few. Really quite frustrated to have such a poor race again but makes sense with being a bit ill. Can't seem to shake this illness has really been on/off since the JK Long and making running a huge effort.

York Uni - BOF Selection race

Not sure what I expected from this, felt ok going into it but Friday was the first day this week that I felt like I would actually be able to run. Warm up felt like hard work. Set off and immediately was thrown by the map and nearly made a mistake off the start, didn't get into any rhythm and wasn't really able to focus which isn't something I've felt with sprints has been a problem before. Nightmare up the bridge to 2 even though I knew the right way still panicked and after nearly running into someone sitting at a table the race felt over by then. Saw Alastair as I was going to 6 which really hit home how awfully this was going. Never really improved and was making small mistakes on every control and felt like I wasn't moving anywhere near fast enough. Hr says that this was max effort which is scary because bits of it felt like jogging :(

Running 18:01 [3] 3.75 km (4:48 / km)

Really easy birthday run. Trying out my new shoes, next version of my current ones which I've had for two years and have done about 900k. Didn't think the old ones were too bad but realized that they had no cushioning when running in the new ones feels amazingly soft and padded. Shame I wasn't feeling up to 18k but I think that a good present to myself is not getting ill. Hopefully will have time for all the long runs in the summer for now just glad to be feeling ok when running legs thankfully not still fatigued and heavy like on Sunday.
