Orienteering race (NOL Livelys Bog) 55:00 intensity: (15:00 @1) + (40:00 @4) 9.0 km (6:07 / km)
ahr:143 max:176 shoes: VJ Falcons

Was starting to feel a bit strange the night before, and woke up feeling like crap. Sore, swollen glands, no energy and really congested in the head. Was trying to get motivated for the race, but it just wasn't happening (as Patty heard several times on the car trip out).
Felt slow running, and not really thinking or caring. Found myself even doing strange things like walking out of a control folding my map so it looked nice for the next leg. Didn't make any errors, but wasn't surprised when Blair caught me up fairly early in the course. Thought that running with Blair would get me back into it a bit, but only lasted a few controls when i hit my foot on a rock again going to 8. With a sore foot and absolutely no heart left in it, decided it really wasn't worth the effort and walked back.

Orienteering race (ASC Galaxy Sprint) 13:52 [5] 3.64 km (3:49 / km)
ahr:180 max:192 spiked:14/20c shoes: Brooks T4 Racer II

Combined NOL and Tas Sprint Champs at Tas Uni Campus. Hadn't been to the Launnie campus before, but it was an awesome area.. dunno why it wasn't one of the first areas to get mapped up there! Think the Hobart campus would be just as good if not better.
Had the longer loop first, and didn't spend enough time when running across the oval to the first to find the best gap through to number 2, so started a little bit shaky. The rushed and shaky feeling continued, was reading the map enough but just not picked up the right detail. When I got to 5 and couldn't see the control under the branch I started to get in a bad mood, lost about 5-10 secs there, but the following long legs got me into a nice rhythm.
Then the big brain fade happened at 14... ran up the left path out of 13 looking to take the left route, but didn't think I could get through when I got to the sqaure. Then for some reason also thought I couldn't get past the purple hashing to the right so went back down to control 13 and took the path to the right out. Then realised that there was a fence in the way which I thought looked like a crossable one on the map, but couldn't make myself jump it in case it wasn't (crossing the dinky little .5mm thick 'uncrossable creek' in the SA sprint a few years back was in the back of my mind). So ended running all the way to the right around the fence and into 14 from there. The stupidity of it is more worrying than the 15-20 secs lost. Finished off the rest well though.
Even though I missed a fair few of the best routes (2, 4, 12, 15), I think the usual tactic of going with the best route I'd found by the time I was leaving the control didn't really make much difference. Surprised and pretty happy to still be close to the top on the results, but also a little frustrating as well.

Orienteering 42:00 [2] 6.2 km (6:46 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia II

Cruise down at Pittwater with Matty and Ev. Just running through the terrain with the map. Was feeling very dehydrated and dizzy after 15 minutes. The run back was a struggle. Defintely a two day recovery after Wed night...

Note
(rest day)

Nope... don't think so. Hangover not as bad as usual tho which was fortunate... although it did hit its peak at about 6pm.

Running 50:00 [3]

Two fiddlers loops on the domain with Patty, Sebba and Kez. Pretty miserable morning so abandoned the mountain run plans, but in the end the weather was quite nice for the duration of the run.. albeit a bit muddy on the ground. Nice solid run, everything felt pretty good... toe was loving not being in the terrain.
