Running 1:28:30 [3] 10.73 km (8:15 / km)

Bright 4 Peaks, day 4, Mystic

Passed lots of people on the climbs, then had quite a few come past on the undulating section.

Expected more people to come past me on the downhill - a few did, but I even passed a couple on the way to the finish.

I was only 20s off my time from 2 years ago on the last downhill 3.4km (and 40s slower on the steep part) - must have lost a lot of speed on the climbing :(

Note

Somehow the hills are getting steeper, or I'm getting more unfit.

Definitely felt unfit this year, and am holding work partly to blame (either being there too late to train, or being too tired). Got to fix that.

A bit worried for Eureka Climb in 1.5 weeks - may have to do some lowering of expectations.

Running 2:42:28 [3] 14.95 km (10:52 / km)

Bright 4 Peaks, day 3, Hotham

Again, the legs were feeling heavy at the start. After yesterday, was into the race biscuits before even reaching the creek.

Surprisingly, I was only 2 mins down on my time from last year from the trailhead to the creek (maybe because I didn't have to wade the creek this year!).

Struggled up the walls (particularly the 2nd one).

Found my happy place in the last km and came past some walkers and a few runners.

Running 1:48:44 [3] 9.86 km (11:02 / km)

Bright 4 Peaks, day 2, Feathertop (to Fed Hut)

Started off slowly - legs still feeling pretty lacklustre. Walked a lot, then did a little bit of running interspersed with a lot of walking. Really hit the wall about 3km from the finish and struggled putting one foot in front of the other when it kicked up again. Had people coming back past me who I'd already passed.

Decided the bonking was possibly due to not eating during the run - I'd decided it was too much effort to get my food out (it wasn't) and I didn't need it. Guess I was wrong!

Running 1:30:00 [2] 8.7 km (10:21 / km)

Jog/walk/swim down Feathertop in the hail and storm.

Pretty happy to see Schepisi and Brooner had driven to the trailhead to pick me up :)

Running 1:44:56 [3] 10.1 km (10:23 / km)

Bright 4 Peaks, day 1, Buffalo

The first of 4 personal worsts (except for last year, when I only ran 2 mountains anyway).

As usual, got stuck behind people at the start, then struggled up the gentle incline. Passed lots of people after Mackeys, as usual. Tired legs were lacking in energy. Fairly hot and steamy weather too, and I was carrying waaaay too much gear as I was worried it would be cold at the top.

Still, nice to be out.

Running 14:31 [3]

Veeerry slow lap of Carlton Gardens post-stairs

Running (stairs) 13:51 [3]

5 x 18

2'38
2'50
2'43
2'52
2'48

I have issues remembering times, apparently. Kind of made the last one up, but I have a feeling it was about that.

Stairs are such hard work. Felt slightly off and stomach crampy by the end.
