DM Sprint Senftenberg
For every situation there are a lot of variables to take into consideration to be in control of the situation or at least to manage it.
In or leading up to a competetion there are variables like specific running preparation, warm-up, eating but also the mental part like focus&concentration and of course the right mix of expecations.
This time before the competetion it really worked out. I was in a good mood, my head was clear of everything else and I got more and more focused on the race itself as I listened to my music and was "just with myself". Before and while doing the warm up I felt that I got enough energy intake and my stomach is okay (as I often do have problems with that).
Doing the warm up directly at the start box on a very small area really helped me stay in the right zone of nervousness and hoping to win.
I did not want to start too fast to really get into the map and terrain which worked out well so I pushed a bit harder and kept it a that pace.
Before the races I knew it´s going to be flat->very fast + a lot of controls, so probably not so much routechoices. (The race really was more about fast and clean execution, which is in line with the current international courses)
In the end I really had an almost perfect race with only one real mistake (~15") which was in a moment of unconcetration plus some "beauty mistakes"..
But of course it all came with a bit of luck that I found a quick and safe way into the race and was able to go through with that the whole race.
All in all I am just super happy with the win and that my shape is really good right now (at least for sprint). Took a lot of confidence and motivation out of this (especially with the WOC nomination) but also really need to digest what happend and need to calm me down because in orienteering the next race can easily be the opposite.
At the same time this is also one of the things I really like about orienteering..
Still some training, concentration and focus on the upcoming things to do!
