Monday Mar 31

MTB 20:00 [3]
Spent the day fixing the MTB after Toppy tried to destroy it when he broke the chain and mangeled the gears and selectors. Up to DH and home via the creek, bike needed the tune up, it was flying

Sunday Mar 30

ORIENTEERING race (NOL Loops race) 1:31:31 14.4 km (6:21 / km)
ahr:141 max:179 shoes: Teva #2
Took the road to the junction on the 1st, got there at the same time as Andy, stayed together till the common, then I slowed down as the pace had been a little quick, saw Bruce and Blair leaving the change over when I came in, but didn't make any ground on them, lost it a bit midway throught he 2nd loop, Ran with John Niuewenhoven for a bit before getting away, but then was untidy on the 3rd loop and John caught me back, he put the speed on going to 4th last, I made some ground on him when he missed 3 to go, and then when he went out on the wrong angle for the last, I got back in front.

Glad that I made the distance, annoyed that I went missing for some of it as I was running well.

Saturday Mar 29

Event: ASC Galaxy & Canberra Cup

ORIENTEERING race (Galaxy Sprint) 15:09 [5] 3 km (5:03 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom
Got going 30 secs after Oscar Phillips went pass, so was a good guide to get me through the 1st loop, made a error going to control 110, got passed by Ryan who was on a good run.

Helped that I knew about the underground passages, dont know if I would have seen them on the map otherwise
ORIENTEERING race (Two person relay) 9:12 [5] 1.8 km (5:07 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom
Kirsten handed over to me amongst the main pack, careful start as people were going everwhere, then saw Shep and Matt at the 2nd, hung on for a little before dropping back, very care ful throught he spectator controls as there were quite a few
ORIENTEERING race (Two person relay) 10:19 [5] 1.9 km (5:26 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom
Kirsten came in in the Nuggetts train, got out just in front of Blair, but was suprised to see him in front at 2, ran him down 8, but Blair got back in front at 11, went different ways to 15 and I had the place back, held on to it to the finish.

Got 6th place (1st Vic), curiosity of Bruce, Jasmine and others leaving out controls

Wednesday Mar 26

Note
Was going to go for a easy ride tonight, went and got the bike out and didn't go anywhere. There was no chain, looks like Mr Top lost the chain when he last rode it and has forgotten to tell me that it needs fixing
C • I lost a chain 1
C • Garmin 11

Monday Mar 24

ORIENTEERING race 57:13 [5]
shoes: Teva #2

Sunday Mar 23

ORIENTEERING race 1:47:18
shoes: Teva #2

Saturday Mar 22

RUN warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: Jalas
Before and after the race
ORIENTEERING race 40:51 [5]
shoes: Jalas
Missed the 1st a little, then saw Liggo (4 mins) at 2, then missed 2 mins at 7, back with Liggo, but then he went missing again on the way to 9. Fairly clean from there home, Shep got me at 15, and sort of held on to the end.

Felt a lot better, and in some ways looking forward to tomorrow
Note
Bloody Jalas gave me a blister, cant work that out, got them in NZ at Waitangi and ran in them most of the time while over there.

Can only blame Customs who washed them apon my return to Oz as they reckon that they had NZ water on them, so they needed to sit in Hot Soapy water for 90 mins. Haven't heard so much BS in my life.

Any way, shoes must have hardened up, so Blister, not good with 2 days to go

Friday Mar 21

Event: Australian Easter Three Days and Prologue

RUN warm up/down 10:00 [3] 2 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Teva #2
Pry to the race
ORIENTEERING race 16:31 [5] 3.5 km (4:43 / km)
shoes: Teva #2
Not the best start, couldn't find the triangle on the map, 7secs slower than Bryan on this leg, then settled in, safe to 3, saw Louis, passed him at 5, then Liggo (2min) at 7, but soon after 8 I felt like I was running on the spot and going nowhere. 9, 10, 11 went by and I was really hitting the wall, Liggo went pass at the spectator, it was all I could do to think, so stayed in contact with him, managed to work things out at the 2nd last, so went the better way. Happy enough with the run, just a little bemused with how I felt
RUN warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: Teva #2
Good long warm down with Liggo, trying to work out what he was up to out there

Thursday Mar 20

Note
Travel day, got going at 4 am, did my normal delivery rounds of Melbourne, then of to Geelong to do deliveries there as well, returned home and drove of to Easter. 20 hrs and 1400 k after Ieaving home in the morning, I arrived at Duddo.

RUN 5:00 [2] 1 km (5:00 / km)
Run around the block in Narrandera while my hamburger was getting cooked

Tuesday Mar 18

ORIENTEERING (Mt Tarrengower) 1:04:00 9 km (7:07 / km)
ahr:138 max:156 shoes: Teva #2
Started at 9 in the morning, ran most of the M21e course from Easter 1998, well all the granite and only once over the hill. Nice on the west side as the sun hadn't quite got up yet.

As I was the course setter for this event, I thought It would be easy for me to remember the sites, but No, no way, couldn't remember a thing, also made it hard on myself by taking a 15,000 map.

PS 1st run in my new Teva's, went well
C • And an empty car 1
C • Garmin 3

Sunday Mar 16

MTB 1:02:00 [4] 25 km (2:29 / km)
shoes: Nike Bike shoes
Late ride, was very nice out with the moonlight, but sometimes hard to see the 'riding line' Out to Sandhurst Res, along channel and home via KG and DH Rd. Felt a lot better, good to let it rip.
Piked out of doing Tarrengower, Leon has Tuesday of School, will do it in the morning

Saturday Mar 15

RUN 1:10:00 11 km (6:22 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom
Late run around the Res, was going alright until I put a surge in to beat a MTB up a hill, after that I wasn't good at all, but still struggled around. Slowest time ever )-;

Friday Mar 14

MTB 20:00 [2]
Rolled the legs over
C • world masters 2

Thursday Mar 13

Note
(rest day)
About time I had one of these, last good weekend of training planned, so need to be ready for it

Wednesday Mar 12

PSEUD-O race 46:00 [4] 10 km (4:36 / km)
Forgot my control card at the start, so always of the back, especially when we got to controls where other people going through, having to wait for them to punch causes the gap to get bigger, finally got to the front when the Keely boys were taking there time to decide, went different ways soon after that, saw them with 3 to go, but they had it under control. Good to see Toph there, and bet Birchy, that makes it 2 each. End of season, so a draw.

C • what about toppy?? 4

Tuesday Mar 11

RUN (troysie type) 15:00 [3] 3 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom
Morning easy run, out and back through Solomon Gully

Note
Saw some controls that are going to be used tomorrow night.
They are out early

RUN warm up/down 10:00 [3] 2 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom
Ran to the track and did some laps

RUN race 11:05 3 km (3:42 / km) vdot: 52.4
Got out well, (1st k in 3.25) but then the tirdeness caused by the last few days got to me, so I dropped of and jogged the rest.

RUN 10:00 [3] 2 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom
Couple of laps, then ran home

Monday Mar 10

ORIENTEERING (Mt Kooyoora) 50:00 [3]
shoes: Teva #1
Hadn't done much O in the last 3 days, so went training. Ran a couple of legs putting out tapes, then ran with B & L around the best bite, finished the session of with a closer look at why rock is called a boulder or a high point or boulder field or grey rock etc etc

Sunday Mar 9

ORIENTEERING (Collecting Controls) 20:00 [3]
shoes: Nike Zoom
After the NOL race

Saturday Mar 8

Event: NOL event 1 & 2

ORIENTEERING (Checking Controls) 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Teva #1
As we didn't get all the controls out last night, had to get going a little earlier. Could feel the heat already.

ORIENTEERING (Putting out SI boxes) 30:00 [3]
shoes: Teva #1
In the evening at Beckworth

Friday Mar 7

ORIENTEERING (Checking Controls) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Nike Zoom
In the evening pry to the NOL

Had a bit of a scare today, was out in the field when I got a call from the course setter, he wasn't well, so as I didn't know where he was, and the reception wasn't the best, told him I would meet him at his car as I knew where that was. He had got severe cramp, and collapsed. At these it wasn't a snake bite

Wednesday Mar 5

PSEUD-O race 55:00 [4] 11.5 km (4:47 / km)
Felt tired from the start, so when the option came to do something different to kEEly and Birchy, I went. Dont think any of us got the optinal route, mainly as the cruz decision had to be made in the 1st min. Got well and truely done, oh well, maybe next week

Note
Fixed the MTB punture's for Toppy, at these 50, 3 corner jacks, so the tubes got thrown out, hope they stay up now

Tuesday Mar 4

ROAD BIKE 40:00 [3] 19.1 km (2:06 / km)
shoes: Nike Bike shoes
Cant use the MTB at the moment as Toppy has been using it and it has had 2 flat tryes for the last week.

Easy cruise, DH, KG, Nankervis, SG and Retreat roads. Felt a bit tired this morning, must have run to hard last night

Monday Mar 3

RUN 1:03:30 [3] 12.6 km (5:02 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom
Waited till it was a little cooler, then went to go anti clockwise around the Res, meet Johnny up near the back fence and ran with him towards his via a few twist and turns, then ran home, good to get to run with someone

Sunday Mar 2

RUN 20:00 [3] 3.8 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom
Went to Bodstock for the Season Opener, don't know why it is seen as that seeing Bendigo has had 6 bush events already this year, must be called that by the Melbourne clubs. Anyway, didn't get to run, had to catch up with my team for next week, and by the time that was all over, the controls had been bought in, so came home and did a easy run around the Golf Course

Saturday Mar 1

RUN 15:00 [3]
Easy TDH type run before breakfast

ROAD BIKE (Commute) 45:00 [2]
Went to town to get the map printed, forgot something, had to go home and back, but finally, after a attempt yesterday, and 2 try's today, the map is printed.

After lunch, to the track and home

RUN warm up/down 10:00 [3] 2 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom
Pry to the 3 k

RUN race 10:13 [3] 3 km (3:24 / km) vdot: 57.4
Track race, Ern Hammer handicap. 1st K in 3.20, thought that was a little fast, but had to keep it going if I was going to catch the front markers, which I managed to do with 600 to go, but I got passed as well, then lost another place with 300 to go, sat on and opened up down the front straight to take out 2nd. Very happy with 10.13, was wanting to run 10.30 this season, so this is much better than I thought I could do. Bring on next year, I now want 10.00

ROAD BIKE (Commute) 5:00 [2]
After the 3 k and before the 400, to keep my legs loose, I rode to the O event for a chat

RUN race 1:06 [5] 0.4 km (2:45 / km)
I hate 400's but I love relays, ran the last leg for the YM 40+ team, we did 4.24, so we decided we must have run 66 secs each. Will be screwed tomorrow as I ran the whole way on my toes

Note
Why is my vdot higher for the 400, does that mean I'm a better 400 runner than a 3k, and it took me 30 years to work that out. But I hate 400's, maybe I'm under achieving at the 3k, but 9.38 sounds to quick for me )-;
