Not feeling amazing today, but pretty big gaps in front and behind so knew I could take it fairly chill. Messed up 1 but otherwise clean, probably didn’t take all the best lines in the brambles though.

Pretty clean navigation, although probably should have looked at compass a bit more while on the long leg to avoid wiggling quite so much. A few hesitations in the rocky slope but nothing big.

To Bedřichov for a ski lesson, lesson, Nová Louka and then back via the dam. Need to transfer weight between skis faster, and push poles all the way back, felt like I was skiing better afterwards.

This felt very long, don't think the rain really helped. Just plodding around, navigation mostly fine. Feeling pretty hungry in the second half, probably should have eaten more after getting pretty cold waiting around after running last night, a good reminder to bring some mid-run snacks next time.

Scottish Night Champs at Braids
Have somehow managed to never orienteer at Braids before, enjoyed the golf course section, although not so much the bit on Blackford, a bit too slidy.
Confused at the start by needing to turn over 90 degrees from the direction of the start kite off the line, so did quite a big banana into 1. Messed up 8 after the road crossing (which I hadn't realised was timed out) being slightly too far along the slope, and came off my bearing on the way into 17 so overshot into the gorse.

Long at Rusland Heights
Better today, although could do with more hill fitness. Took a bad line into 1 and ended up a bit high on the slope, messy in the circle at 5, big banana into 6, confused by the walls at 18, and poor route choice to 21. Some good navigation on the others though, enjoyed the course and the area a lot.
A bit annoyed by the course planning though with the mens course being exactly the same as the womens until 17, meaning that we were constantly being overtaken by them. Obviously these events are just low key and trying to minimise controls, but if the courses have to be identical it wouldn’t be that hard to start the women after the men? On an area like this though it seems like it should be possible to reuse the same controls in a different order to make an equally interesting course.

Middle at Holme Fell
Wasn’t really with it for the first two controls, and Niamh caught me 2 minutes by 2 (which we both messed up). Took off a layer on the way to 3 which helped with the mindset that this was actually a race and I should run a bit faster than a jog, then navigation was a bit better after that. A couple of small bananas in the butterfly, main problem there was being confused by number 7 being labelled as 17 on the map.
