Thursday May 31

Running 1:10:00 [3]15 km (4:40 / km) +250m 4:18 / km
ahr:145 max:165
As the neck got better during the day, I decided to join The Boss and Fos for some sparring. High HR uphill, but the neck felt even better after the training.
Planning to do some basic mileage now in June, so that I can profit more from high quality training in July and hopefully reach a decent shape for OO-Cup 5-days.

Wednesday May 30

Note
something in my neck snapped in the morning. Could hardly move my head by the afternoon, so no training today. I wonder where this will lead once I've turned 30...
C • I had something similar... 3

Tuesday May 29

Cycling 2:50:00 [3]75 km (2:16 / km) +1500m 2:04 / km
ahr:127
To the end of Valle Onsernone, and to the end of Val Vergeletto on the way. So nice! If it had been warmer, I would have thought that I'm in Corsica. Legs felt ok.

Monday May 28

Note
too much rain and too cold for training, and the legs were a bit sore from yesterday...

Sunday May 27

Running 2:30:00 [2]15 km (10:00 / km) +1000m 7:30 / km
run up to Cimetta and back in the pouring rain. So nice!

Saturday May 26

Running 30:00 [3]
woke up with a headache. I assumed that this was because the adrenaline I had been living on in the last days was now gone, so I had to go for a short run, joining all the hobby joggers in Chäferberg. Felt bad.
Cycling 45:00 [3]13 km (3:28 / km) +600m 2:49 / km
Locarno-Mergoscia on the bike.

Friday May 25

Note
Submitted the paper today, now lets hope it gets accepted, that would be one step closer to fame and honor ;-). It was once again tough work in the last two months, and especially the last few weeks, 70-80hrs per week in front of the computer. I'm really not (yes, REALLY not!) planning to do this for the next years, but for now that's what needs to be done. I still believe that hard work will always pay off at some point.
Anyway, I'm quite happy with the paper, results are cool and there's some nice math in there, real geeky ;-) And I didn't think I would ever have a paper with lemmas and proofs in it:-) Math can actually be fun if you start to understand it...
I've come back stronger than ever in research, and I think this was really needed after the past year. Could I come back stronger than ever in orienteering as well? ;-)

Wednesday May 23

Strength 30:00 [3]
upper body. It's amazing what kind of magic some exercise can do to the mind...

Saturday May 19

Running 44:00 [3]10 km (4:24 / km) +150m 4:06 / km
endorphine run to enjoy the nice weather. Felt surprisingly good, nice flow in the legs! Actually, I'm not sure I've ever felt so light since I've returned from Chile...!? :-) The human body is a mystery.

Friday May 18

Cycling 1:20:00 [2]35 km (2:17 / km) +600m 2:06 / km
Needed the endorphine really really badly today. Couldn't keep the legs still in front of the computer and felt like crap. So I went home earlier for a change to enjoy the nice weather and do an evening ride across every hill I could find close to home. Awesome feeling. Did some short but hard sprints on the climbs to get the body working.
At least the endorphine needs are still there. If that's enough for coming back?

Tuesday May 15

Strength 30:00 [1]
upper body to fight general body degeneration.

Monday May 14

Note
successful weekend as coach: 2nd and 3rd place in the junior girls, World-Cup selection in HE!

Sunday May 13

Orienteering Competition 35:00 [5]
Middle-SM Taverne. 13th place.
The plan was to cut yesterdays placing at least in half. I knew that this terrain suited me, and I wasn't disappointed!!! Orienteering here is just the most awesome thing there is. Steep, technical, lots of leg coordination required. Did a clean race, just at reduced engine power (glad that there were no long uphill legs today ;-)), but speed is secondary here, it's technique and being able to run at all in the rocky slopes. Quite happy with the result.
Tero rocked, as expected, but David Schneider and Benno Schuler were running his speed impressively most of the way but made mistakes in the end. Also impressive was Stefano Maddalena in 5th place, at 39yrs old! Ok, he is home in these terrains and knows Taverne well, I assume, as he lives only some km from there, but still, I would have to be in top shape to run that speed!!
I even beat The Boss today, probably the first and last time for some months or years...;-) Was still one minute down in the overall two-day ranking though :-)

C • Chapeau 3
Running 25:00 [2]
warm up to make the muscles a little less sore. Hmm, lately I've always had sore muscles after a competition... I wonder if there is some correlation between this and mileage? ;-)

Saturday May 12

Running 30:00 [3]
run. Was defnitely necessary. Nice to feel some endorphine.
Orienteering Competition 16:00 [5]
Sprint-SM Lugano. 36th place. Lost 2'15'' to The Boss. I decided I would do this race in all-or-nothing style, intensity 5.5. So I pushed as hard as I could from the start, which was still only good enough for 35th place at the spectator control. Then there was a long leg uphill, where I had a complete engine breakdown and barely made it to the finish... but probably other people felt the same, I thought I must have lost at least 10 places there.
Race was a lot of fun anyway, many spectators, nice event!!

Wednesday May 9

Strength 30:00 [1]
lunch strength to fight body degeneration in front of the screen.

Monday May 7

Note
still very sore legs from SOLA. Training will be minimal in the coming weeks. Paper deadline coming up on May 25. I will go to OO-Cup in Slovenia at the end of July, will try to get in shape for that.
Grappa and Pisco are ready for tonight when Maetthu will be home. Hanni, we'll be drinking your share as well, is that ok? :-))
C • Celebrate! 2

Saturday May 5

Running 55:00 [5]13 km (4:14 / km) +400m 3:40 / km
ahr:172 max:177
SOLA Stafette, Egg-Pfannenstiel. Went through a lot of pain especially in the tough uphill kilometers in the beginning. After 6km, there were some kms of nice downhill rolling, fun factor finally became positive. Had about the same time as last year, but that's because I was just horribly bad then, not because I was good this time.
Andreas Rüedlinger had the best time on the leg with 47.53 (Urs Müller ran it in 46.09 two years ago!!). Just saw that my flatmate Mätthu rocked again big-time at NOC today. At least I know why he just keeps trashing us in the Wednesday intervals...:-)

Thursday May 3

Running 1:00:00 [3]
with Fos and Roggi. Felt like crap from the first to the last meter, and legs hurt. It's going to be very very painful on SOLA on Saturday if I feel the same there...
