Our anniversary is this week, and we told my parents that the only thing we wanted was one day to get out and adventure together without the kids. So, they took both of them for the first time... ever... and we got to spend the whole day playing in the woods.

Plan was to packraft the Unami Creek to the Perkiomen, where we'd stashed our bikes, then ride down to Evansburg, lock up there for an orienteering course that Bruce Kuo and Ron Barron have set up, and then ride back to the car.

But really, when does adventuring ever go as planned? The Unami is beautiful, but it's also pretty much impassable, despite the last two days of rain. Think UNE's Dead River without the water. So, what we thought would be a two-hour paddle ended up as an almost-five-hour morning of portaging and boulder hopping. It was a blast, but we had to adjust our plans accordingly.

We took out near Green Lane, TA-ed to bikes, and then rode back to our car with two VERY heavy packs.

Then we drove down to Evansburg to do as much of the long o-course as we could. It was 12.5km straight line, we arrived at 3:30pm, and we had a hard cutoff at 5:15pm. We ran into Sam and Lena in the parking lot. They had just finished and said it took them 2 hours, 37 minutes, so we knew we wouldn't be clearing it. Took us awhile to find the start (this time includes those 10-15 minutes), but once we did we moved well. I never thought I'd be running 7:30 miles down a trail during an o-meet! Couldn't get the iOrienteering app to work, so we just took pictures at each control. We didn't get all the mandatories, so it wasn't an official finish anyway, but we covered about 2/3 of it and had a ton of fun. In the time of COVID, this felt as epic as OMM Iceland, which we did for our tenth anniversary.

We called this our Virtual Adventure Challenge, which, while technically only a five-hour event, calls for 2 hours of biking. So, we'll head out with the kids tomorrow to finish it up.

Didn't realize how much we needed the day until it was over.
