| mtbing at sparrow hill....AWESOME. have been wanting to get out here since getting back in january, was worth the wait. rode the main loop as well as the 2 short loops (heavy cow 3.5km and sparrow 2.5km) which break off the main one. pretty boggy in places so was caked in mud. started pretty slow (forgetting gloves didnt help) but after 30mins had remembered how to mtb and felt it was effortless. started to get a bit of soreness in my lower back in the last 30mins, not that suprising giving i havent ridden hard on the MTB for a while. not sure how long the big loop is now, there were a few sections i dont remember having ridden. might have done 30km all up maybe.
highlight was probably flogging it round a corner only to see a cow parked right across the track (would have been funny if it were on the heavy cow loop!). luckily for both of us my brakes were in fine form and we could both continue our morning. Plan was to meet sheppa after for an orienteering session he had planned but i had assumed a bit much and not confirmed so that fell through. shame, a bit of O in that forest would have made it a perfect sat morning. | ||

late arvo run up on red hill. saw silicon kid matty purcell out with his grammar troops so had a quick yarn and bagged them out for looking so casual after a 'hill' session. did 3X6 mins ints with 2 mins recovery round the back of federal and the northern part of red hill. felt sluggish and couldnt really get going. considering running an offroad 1/2 marathon at googong dam on the weekend. | ||

| bit of a disappointing turnout tonight. rob fells slackness didnt help the situation. i just hope our entire jwoc team isnt so soft.
despite the variable weather it was pretty nice running and i really enjoyed the session, verkligen. just cruised round and tried to work on the nav. really untidy to start with but got it together towards the end. lamp died on me but luckily sheppa had lent me his small battery which saved the day. | ||

struggled a bit actually, always get sucked into running too fast at the start. felt a bit better once i settled down and stopped stuffing up so much. dont really know how long i took. had about 1km run to the start as well so i think its a fair guess. | ||

| NSW paddy pallin in Rydal near lithgow.
really nice area. unfortunately the cox's river was too high so they jagged the eastern 1/2 of the course leaving a less than impressive collection of controls that was never going to survive 6hrs. i didnt think it was even going to take 4 hrs but the southern section was far hillier and really slowed us down. ran with mace and we had a really good day. nice and solid first 2 hrs. caught up with robbie after he did a mistake and ran with him for a few controls but they were going a bit fast for us. slowed down heaps in the last 2 hrs. also lost nearly 20 mins on a control when we both lost focus and chucked a 90 degreer by running up a wrong creek....DOH! mace is probably the greatest rogaining partner around, thanks for a fun day. think we ended up 5th and 3rd mixed. also heard a rumour we got beaten by a vets team! reasonably happy, felt strong most of the day. died a bit in the last hour but i think a bit of that was just apathy and taking heaps longer after id psyched myself up for an early lunch. | ||

| had last exam this morning and was pretty fired up so wanted to blow out some steam before the drinking commenced. of course it was raining and i wasnt gonna run in the rain so gym was seemed the best option.
so, i started doing the sketchiest sullies creek crossing ever across the stepping stones behind the gym.....it was seriously pumping. decided to swallow my pride and take the long way round. not only would it be bloody embarrasing to fall arse first into sullies it would prolly be a health hazard too. after 10 mins on the tready i remembered how much i hate them, so i just decided to destroy the thing and spray as much sweat everywhere as i could in 40mins. mission accomplished i feel. did a few odds and ends with weight machines but left when my tutor decided to rock up and start talking about the exam i was trying to forget about. | ||

found it pretty physical and tough nav in the dark especially with shit light. dont know why i didnt pick up a decent one while i was in sweden. missed 2 controls where i stuffed up and CBFed. i think i may have set a record for the most milo disolved into a glass (bowl) of milk. it was a massive glass but i spent about 10 mins mixing and reheating to get that super saturated effect. of course, then i sat down, smashed it and felt crook as a dog for the next hour! | ||

| lunchtime session.
warm up over to bruce ridge 19mins. ran 3X6mins efforts mainly on fire trails with 2mins recovery in between. cruised back to uni. was a complete gumby today running to and from uni. nearly ran straight into people walking on 2 occasions and had a collision with a girl on one of those sketchy old school road bikes.....think i gave her a bit of a scare, she'll probably have already bought a helmet! i think me shoes are shot, time to bust out the new pair ive been saving in the closet | ||

| on advice of coach avejase and hoggster id thought i better get some ints in, before my training gets torn apart via internet podcasts no one actually listens to.
ran up all around and over red hill aimed to do 2 sets of 10 X 1mins on 30secs recovery. did 11 in the first set after deciding to finish in a more logical spot. 2nd set ran the ridges from hindmarsh drive. finished the 5th (maybe 6th) on top of davidson trig and decided i didnt want to trash the legs doing ints on the steep trail down to the main saddle. Ended up running solid for 30mins round the back of golf club and home. some dudes have built an awesome little bmx dirt jump course off to the side of the 11th at federal. pretty impressive actually. so time includes warm up/ down mlb avenue. 16 ints w recovery and other loop. beaut day out. jumped in the pool when i got home....and f*&k me it was freezing, nice for the legs but | ||

was pretty fired up cos after having studied and worked since the crack of dawn i went outside to ride to orienteering from civic to find a chopped lock lying on the ground and no nice MTB.....SHIT. luckily at the same same time i got a call from londsdale cycles (round the corner) where i'd bought the bike saying mal adjusted had it after the dumb ass dude who stole it came in trying to sell it or something (sketchy details), so they checked the serial #......what a fucking dead shit! still havent got my bike back....apparantly it is 'with the cops' (joy riding?) but i think i am one pretty lucky boy. anyway, really enjoyed the orienteering, wore a few too many clothes and had a full tank towards the end so the last few legs were rather unpleasant. | ||

| solid lunchtime run up on black mt. ran trhu botanic gardens, struggled to get out of them (as usual), straight up steep track on eastern side, ran the circumciser track, down breakfast hill, buggered round for a while on the western side then back round little black mt and down thru csiro to the pickle.
the body really appreciated doing nothing yesterday, just felt solid and relaxed running on a beaut day | ||

| campbell park sunday. really like this area. the nerd team had all their computers and radio SI units out there to test it all for JWOC, so that was a bit of a novelty.
not the best run. feeling a bit flat and made a few silly mistakes.....but on the bright side it was a gorgeous day to be out doing what i enjoy....so it could have been worse:) | ||

| bit hungover today. went down to the weston park XC. race was 12km for guys, 8 km for girls. just did the one 4km lap (17mins, fairly tough loop, lots of undulations varied surfaces) then had a warm down. not the best training but felt a lot better after than before. | ||
