Cycling 3:30:00 [3]
hmmm, interesting.

Stupidly never got round to having dinner last night so it ended up being a liquid dinner and after getting home at 4 i was feeling more than a little bit seedy this morning. However, in honour of Jens Voigt's powerhouse effort in the Giro I decided i should chuck on my CSC jersery, jump on my Cervelo and go do something about the way i felt. He would have been proud.

Was only going to ride for 90mins but ended up heading out to west head. Sat and admired the view and beautiful day for a while then rode down to Akuna bay on the way home. Strugglesville.

Thursday May 29

Running 45:00 [3]
Lunchtime jaunt.

Did 6 X big stairs near lady macs then straight into a gate to gate. round opera house then twisted my way back. drizzling.

Wednesday May 28

Cycling 43:00 [3]
cracker morning. had to seriously peel off layers as i warmed up.
Cycling 48:00 [3]
wet old ride home.

Got home to no power so had a couple of hours by candlelight. Was a nice change actually. Internet is disconnected anyway so there wouldn't have been anything to do even if we had power.

Tuesday May 27

Note
(rest day)
never got round to doing the run session i planned today. shame.

House husband Ezy had a ripper pumkin soup cooked for dinner when i got home. nice :) Dari must be regretting his decision to move out.

Monday May 26

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]
commute
Cycling 10:00 [0]
quick roll on the trainer to test my new aero bars. Went to clarence st cycles today to sus out my suspected broken battery from my night rider (turned out it was a busted charger) and walked out with $200 of stuff. What a sucker for a sale!

Sunday May 25

Cycling 1:35:00 [3]
faffed round for ages but finally managed to get out the door.

Did a double Bobbin head. down there, up to kalkari, down again and back up BH rd. Pretty solid on both climbs but never gave so much i feeling uncomfortable. nice afternoon after e dubious morning.

Saturday May 24

Cycling 35:00 [3]
on the trainer with ezy.

Friday May 23

Running 48:00 [3]
nice run in domain/bot gardens on sunset. good way to end the week. did some surges. wish i felt better running.

Thursday May 22

Note
(rest day)
just never got round to doing anything today.

Went to the Banff mt film fest which was awesome and inspiring as always. Was at the (USYD) Seymour centre on City rd but had coffee at near wynyard so took the train to redfern and walked. Read an article about a 23yr old dude who got stabbed to death there the night before. Nice neighbourhood. Played a game i like to call "count the number of houses without metal grates over everything." I got to...zero.

Wednesday May 21

Squash 53:00 [3]
went down :(

Tuesday May 20

Cycling 44:00 [3]
Pretty relaxed ride. Not pushing to pace except to drop this dick on a mtb who was annoying me.

nice day as well.
Cycling 35:00 [3]
quick one back on the hwy.

Old roadie is making noises it never used to make before.

Monday May 19

Note
(rest day)
lateish night getting home. I don't think i would have made it if i tried riding this morning or if i did i would still be going now!

A bit sore. Nothing a rest day won't fix though.

Sunday May 18

Orienteering 2:19:00 [3]
Another elite classic, another epic...haha

Nah awesome fun orienteering. Nice area and good courses.

Took coach hoggsters advice and ran nice and steady, getting to the spectator feeling good and not having missed much on the first loop. Hills started on the second loop and destroyed me a bit but got round.

Ripper weekend. Would have been nice to see a bit more of tassie, i really miss it. next time i guess

Saturday May 17

Event: Sun Coast Classic & WOC Selection Trials

Orienteering 19:19 [3]
NOL Sprint on Little Childs Creek.

Reaonably tidy run except for some small misses in the second half. No speed in my legs, need more (some) intervals.
Orienteering 54:00 [3]
Middle.

Massive debacle.

Missed 3 mins on 2 stupidly. felt rooted from the morning and just hit the wall something savage. Shit happens.
Orienteering warm up/down 30:00 [3]
various w/us and w/ds

Friday May 16

swimming 30:00 [3]
Rolled down to Lane Cove Aquatic Centre on the bike for an ezy swim with Ezy. Don't swim much these days but still feel like I can swim ok from my days as buddying young swimmer.

Hit up the spa and steam room then plunge pool for some stretching after. Reminded me of Sweden when a combination of a swim, spa, plunge pool, sauna and steam room at the old Centralbadet functioned as both my training and hangover cure. Good memories!

Thursday May 15

Running 38:00 [3]
bit of an afternoon jaunt in the domain/bot gardens. Nice day, good to get out of the office and enjoy the sights.

My legs feel like they need to be taught to run again. Could be an interesting weekend in tassie.

Wednesday May 14

Cycling 41:00 [3]

Cycling 44:00 [3]
shit my 'training' is boring!
C • yeah 6

Sunday May 11

Running 1:15:00 [3]
was almost not going to do anything today but with no races on and no-one at home i didnt know what to do with myself. Basically Deburghs loop along the river. Felt good at times but mostly felt weak and dizzy and walked a lot. Bit of a worry i cant even survive an hour run. Hit up some nice thick cafe style raisin toast once i got home. yummy.

Prong was impressive.
Cycling 28:00 [3]
rolled over to Ben's place to have a yarn with kez and co.
struggled

Saturday May 10

Cycling 2:30:00 [3]
Manly dam with Glenn and Margo's sister's b/f andrew.

Felt a bit seedy after some beers on an empty stomach but a good old meat pie for breakfast at the servo helped fix that. Struggled a bit technically at first but got into it the further we went. Had a good stack when a little drop off went horribly wrong and ended up over the handle bars. First crash i've had for ages.

Aim is to try and be able to ride the whole loop by the end of the year.

Legs are really tired but i feel like a few easy days and ill be going good!

Friday May 9

Cycling 3:30:00 [3]
Absolutely magic morning out. Sydney put on a show weather wise today and i was pretty stoked to be out enjoying it and not working in the concrete jungle. Gotta love study leave.

had a bit of a sleep in and didn't feel super spritely which made decision to bail on m 180km Wisemans ferry epic easy. Opted for a northern beaches loop instead. Out on mona vale rd, taking macar's rd exit down to akuna bay. Had planned on riding down to akuna bay but since i didnt know how far, hard or even where i was going i thought i'd save my legs for later, as nice as akuna bay is. So rode straight through to church point. Nice little area. Back round past bayview and headed off to Palm beach. Got about 1/2way there (5km ish out) and decided i couldnt be stuffed so turned round and rode back along Pittwater rd. Found a nice cafe in Narrabeen so had a coffee and read the paper. Back on the road, busted a move through Dee Why (will stop here next time). Originally planned to head home from here but was such a nice day and roads pretty quiet to kept going to freshwater and down to Manly. Thought i may as well go up to North head. Nice little climb and a fast road out there.

Was checking out the view at one of the carparks and saw this middle aged dude in motorcycle leathers on a Harley chatting to a German sounding lady. "My name is Tom Brown, my nickname is hash so i introduce myself as.....hi, i'm hash brown, would you like me for breakfast....." I hoped id missed some important context and took it as a sign to get moving. Old Tom has Brown and his lady friend passed me on the way back down to manly...he was still crapping on then too.

Had a ripper apple cinnamon muffin in Manly and said tjena to my swedish friend who works at the cafe i'd met last time i was in manly.

Floored it home from manly. Was going good but cracked like a walnut on the steep little climb up from Roseville bridge.

Not sure about distance but with 3 1/2 pretty solid hours of riding i guess around 90km. Good day.

The good thing about a ride like this on a weekday is i can enjoy the house to myself and do what i love....dancing around the house naked freely and without risk of disturbance.

Thursday May 8

Cycling 40:00 [3]
Cycling 44:00 [3]
Running 36:00 [3]
evening cruise with Glenn. Down to UTS and Lindfield. nice evening.
tired but felt better for the leg stretch

Wednesday May 7

Cycling 42:00 [3]
Rode with dari. Back to the old bike cos i dont want to put too many k's on the new one and devalue it. It felt like a bit of a dog but the fact that my arse is almost a perfect mould of the saddle suggests we have had some very good times together!
Cycling 50:00 [3]
bit of a slow one home, had rear light issues so rode the 'fark, no one can see the back of me' route home.

Tuesday May 6

Cycling 41:00 [3]
'mute to work.

bit of drizzle but nice enough. Legs feel heavy.
Cycling 38:00 [3]
nice ride home along the pacific

Monday May 5

Note
(rest day)
Took the train today
Squash 45:00 [3]
Been ages since i had a game. Me and my squash buddy decided a post-work jaunt was long overdue. Usually its a good game but i won pretty easily today. I think she might have been playing easy though.

The body felt heaps better for it.

Sunday May 4

Cycling (dirtworks 50km) 1:59:00 [3]50 km (2:23 / km) +1200m 2:08 / km
Smashed it!

Not sure exactly what i came but i think it was around 8th.

they had 4 start waves for the 50 (100s started 2hrs earlier) and you could choose which wave you started. I went the first one.

First 10km is flat along a road out of St Albans and the usual beginning of race over enthusiasm meant there was a long peleton charging along pretty solidly. I sat behind Dari and got in some last minute sledging before the action begun. There is only one big climb which is straight after the flat fast bit. felt like there was about to be a big split in the group as people realised it isnt a sprint. Got up in the top 10 to be there for the climb. Lots walked heaps of the hill which is good for me cos i loose less time than if its rideable. Got to the top and headed off for the 25km ridge run. Was in a group of 4 but 2 of the dudes i reckoned were going to just sit on and be dead weight. made the call to jump off and bridge to the lead group i reckoned were a minute or 2 up the road. BIt risky but i thought if i could get there it would set up a good day. Rode on the rivet for 5-8km and got within 10secs at one point but just couldnt get there. was hurting pretty bad so gave up and chilled out to try and let the legs recover. one dude went past me but didnt see any others coming. rode through 2 guys who dropped off the back of the lead group. Lots of little climbs and short, steep rough descents which i struggled with but would catch up on flats and up hills. There was a massive downhill at around 35km and i went to change gears at the back but my rear d was lifeless.....shit! Turned out i'd snapped my cable right where it attaches to the derailleur! Still had my front gears but was hurting a bit and any climb would have put me away i thought. Knew the last 10 odd kms were dead flat back along the river and when the descent stopped and we turned into a nice wide, flat, gravel road i knew id got lucky and was off the hook. popped it in the big gear ad started pumping out the big ones, Jan style. Rode away from the guy who had been just behind me. Past another dude then caught up to another guy but he jumped on. He looked like a pretty strong rodey and we worked together swapping turns and working hard along the river. We caught two more guys who jumped on but cracked on a little rise 2km out. Unfortunately so did I a little bit and mr Rodey got 10m and i couldnt catch him.

Really happy with my ride, wasnt expecting to go so well. MIxed emotions about whether going solo along the ridge was the right thing to do. I think it was cos if i stayed where i was we would have just bunched up with about 10 dudes who were just behind at the top of the climb (including Dari) so although it hurt a bit and i never caught the lead bunch it helped me in the end.

Everyone got a cold beer at the finish and watched some of the carnage from the 100kmers finishing. Good memories of my first 100km when i could barely talk after the finish.

Have a super sore lower back which i hope loosens out ok

Saturday May 3

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]
turned the legs over out terry hills way along mona vale rd. Felt pretty good so decided to keep going past the Akuna bay turnoff. I wish i hadn't cos the road goes shitty and narrow real quick and i realised short of going to the coast i was just going to have to turn around i ride back up the hill.

Looking forward to dirt works 2moro
