Sunday Sep 30

Hiking 2:30:00 [1]7.3 mi (20:32 / mi) +200m 11:46 / km
went on an easy section of the AT that started in CT and traveled south. went with my brother that does not train as much as I do so went at his pace. Did a point to point. Towards the end of the hike went through a farmer's field with plenty of cattle to go around. Wanted to hike more just work said I had to be back on Monday. At first my brother was really slow taking 34 mins to go 1.2 miles, but picked it up and we finished in this time. We stopped a couple of times to take pictures.

Friday Sep 28

Running 25:00 [1]3.2 mi (7:48 / mi)
moving along well. Ran in the park again it was cool so made for a fast time plus all the fair weather runners were not around. time based off using a mile marker in the park probably from a race ran one mile in 7:40- it might have been slightly downhill running, but not sure since it was dark.

Thursday Sep 27

Running 40:00 [1]5.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
ran around in Central Park. the place is the big meeting place for runners so at least 5,000 people all running around at one time. Saw lots of runners doing a workout with NYAC. just took it easy after sitting all day needed to do something.
Elliptical trainer 10:00 [1]
this hotel is not cheap so I am using the exercise room. nice view of NY while using the equipment.

Wednesday Sep 26

Running 34:00 [1]4.0 mi (8:30 / mi)
easy run in Central Park. walked to and from the park so did not add this distance in to the total.
Walking 30:00 [1]2.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
arrived at the cours early so walked around Central Park to wait for registration to open. Had a 1.5 hour commute into the city so needed to walk around.

Monday Sep 24

Running 32:00 [2]4.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
ran to the gym and back.
Weightlifting 25:00 [1]
don't want to turn to flab so a quick round in the gym. Wondering why the results from the relay are not posted. Shortly after thinking this found out why when again just like two years ago there are issues with the time both ours and the other team's. It is deja vu all over. Same exact thing. Watches were not turned on when the start wistle blew for both heats so the finishing time was estimated and in both cases worked against the team I was on. Addtionally others thought we had won. The final time we had is rather different from the time we might be given as much as 28 seconds slower. Also just like last time our team ran the first heat set the standard so we all knew the time to beat. The organizer are trying to find someone that may have timed it that has nothing to do with either the first or second place team. My guess just like the last time we will be kept in second place and given the time as best as they can estimate. I always known what a great job MCRRC does making sure times are accurate from the first to last person. Two people on my team really wanted to win and put a lot effort into the race.

Sunday Sep 23

Kayaking 30:00 [3]
Shooting 50:00 [1]
all the more time to shoot before the range closed. Thought I could skip shooting prone to set the windage, but this ended up being a mistake. The shots when I was standing were grouping well just way off to the side of the target so had to set the windage this way which is a little tougher. Had the range entirely to myself.

Saturday Sep 22

Running 30:00 [1]3.5 mi (8:34 / mi)
easy run to stretch out my legs. Planned to go shooting just it was so crowded at the range skipped for the day.
Walking 25:00 [1]1.5 mi (16:39 / mi)
helped somebody callobrate (sp.) their pedometer so they could start a walking program. Used the 400m school track to set it correctly.

Friday Sep 21

Shooting 1:00:00 [1]
shot 100 rounds.

Thursday Sep 20

Running race 2:45 [5]0.5 mi (5:29 / mi)
part of the relay team at NIH. Would have never run this since a colleague of mine asked me to do this over two months ago; tough to say no. I knew I would be tired from all of the racing which this year is 19 some are long distances also. Could feel it my legs and still managed this time. I think I left all my fast twitch in Estonia. Both mentally and physically tired of racing right now and if not part of a team would have skipped. No plans to race the rest of the year want to recover and go back to training mode. with fresh legs and more motivation to compete probably can easily run 10 seconds faster. The course is not flat and had some construction on it. team ended up finishing second by 12 seconds, but we still get our names engraved on the plaque. The course record was beaten by the first place team. old record 13:59 new record 13:54.
Running warm up/down 21:00 [1]2.5 mi (8:23 / mi)
slow with a few pick ups.

Wednesday Sep 19

Running 36:00 [1]4.5 mi (7:59 / mi)
Shooting 20:00 [1]
wanted to go to the range not enough time so trained on SCATT. Wanted to use the other day just the computer was acting up.

Tuesday Sep 18

Biathlon 1:00:00 [1]
Shot 120 rounds. Needed to shoot 20 prone just to zero and changed to standing for the rest. Shot 30 rounds that would all have been hits in a row finally missed once, but just by a little. Never had this many in a row that were this perfect. A couple came in and both started shooting 9mm so still shot well, but not like this.

Monday Sep 17

Running 34:00 [1]4.0 mi (8:30 / mi)
ran to the gym and back.
Weightlifting 20:00 [1]
Did not lose anything eventhough I have not lifted for well over two weeks.

Sunday Sep 16

Note
volunteered at MCRRC's Parks Half marathon. promoted to running the water stop. Had about eight other volunteers helping me. Total time almost three hours which included set up, handing out water and clean up. when nobody in the neighborhood gets pissed off you have to be happy. some neighbors came out and even helped. good weather for volunteers and runners.
Biathlon 19:00 [1]2.0 mi (9:29 / mi)
ran one mile easy shot 10 shots standing ran another mile and shot 10 rounds standing. ending up shooting more after this, but ended up being more accurate after running. after running have to run through the front door of the range and shoot not exactly like race conditions, but still helps with working on the transistioning.
Shooting 45:00 [1]
initially shot prone to zero and after running shot another 60 rounds. sometimes shot really bad standing and shot another 20 and did not miss at all.

Saturday Sep 15

Yard work 30:00 [1]
alway wondering why the grass did not grow well in one part of the yard well today I found out. There were large stepping stones underneath so dug them all out - 10 total and dragged to the back yard. Most of them weighed between 20-30 pounds so a good upper body workout. Put some top soil in along with grass seed so hopefully now it will grow a lot better.
Shooting 1:00:00 [1]
shot 100 rounds. Forgot my strap so only could shoot standing.
Running 34:00 [1]4.0 mi (8:30 / mi)
easy run about 2/3 on trails.

Friday Sep 14

Running 1:14:00 [1]9.0 mi (8:14 / mi)
I really meant to run shorter just turned into a longer run. Bought new sneakers so felt very easy since these are nice and fluffy.

Thursday Sep 13

swimming 30:00 [1]
mostly kicking with all four strokes.

Wednesday Sep 12

Running 25:00 [1]3.0 mi (8:20 / mi)
needed to at least run a bit to let my legs recover. Met up with the relay team and trained some with them.
Shooting 1:00:00 [1]
after being away from the range for one week time to go back. initially did not shoot well and quickly shot way better. Only shot 20 rounds prone since I forgot my mat and the floor is really tough on the arms. Did this to set my windage and shot the rest standing. shot 100 rounds total.
Yard work 35:00 [1]
Mowed the backyard and removed a shrub that has been struggling for some time. TLC including extra water and miracle grow was not enough to save it.

Sunday Sep 9

Note
Long trip back for Otepaa, Estonia. trip inlcuded a 2.5 hour van ride, 2.3 hour flight to Frankfurt, 8 hours to Philadelphia and 2.5 hours to drive home. Also had to deal with customs. All went well with everything running on time plus was treated well by all the customs people and airlines. No problem getting the gun through customs here in the USA, but wearing my uniform probably helped. Ended up being awake for 25 hours since I can only dream of sleeping on a plane at best just closed my eyes and relaxed.
C • No time to visit Tallinn? 2

Saturday Sep 8

Cross country skiing 1:00:00 [1]5.0 mi (11:59 / mi)
went out skiing again. tried areas that are a little more hilly. Had a great massage late in the day. Had some Krones to use up plus the price was right.

Friday Sep 7

Cross country skiing 1:00:00 [1]5.0 mi (11:59 / mi)
tried the roller ski cross country skies. took about 10 mins to get used to it and moved along well after that. mostly stayed on somewhat flat areas.
Walking 30:00 [1]2.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
went out walking with Jesse just to stretch our legs. Stopped to watch the fireworks over the lake.

Wednesday Sep 5

Biathlon race 34:55 [5]5 km (6:59 / km) +135m 6:09 / km
not a great day today. Mass start Women's 5K. Last in the pack of 27, but planned to do this so I did not get out too fast. Came into shoot with the others and figured after doing well with prone it would go well. Thought to much about running again and did not shoot carefully afterwards realizing I was pulling the trigger much to hard which pulled all of my shots to the right. Had to run five penalty loops putting me far behind. Second prone set only got one. Redeemed myself in the standing by getting two and then three. Still better then Fort Kent, but after improving on prone thought it would be much better. Finished 10+ mins out of first and easily in last. did not add extra distance run for penalty laps.
Shooting 30:00 [1]
practiced prone on SCATT after the meet to figure out what happened and the computer confirmed that I was just pulling the trigger to hard. Much more gentle when practicing and did not have the problem, but in the hotel room you don't have the other biathletes around you. Wish we had one more person to make a relay team just one short.
Shooting 30:00 [1]
zeroing before the race. Pulled a couple of rounds but had several that overlapped so felt good about my shooting. the other women was not in this race so had it all to myself. had to buy another sling since the one from yesterday was missing kept thinking this was pulling off my shooting, but shot better when I was zeroing with it.
Running warm up/down 26:00 [1]3.0 mi (8:39 / mi)

Tuesday Sep 4

Walking 40:00 [1]2.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
since my husband and I could not sleep went for a walk in the middle of the night. went in another direction to explore and saw an historical area marked with a 300+ year old tree where a rebellion happened. once we got back had no problem sleeping. other people on the team are not sleeping well so it is probably from such a big time change.
Running warm up/down 17:50 [1]2.0 mi (8:54 / mi)
ran around on the course and to a bathroom before zeroing. course a little muddy from the rains of the last two days.
Biathlon race 18:33 [5]3 km (6:11 / km) +81m 5:27 / km
Sprint competition with staggered starts. Started number five in a field of 27. The Olympic champion got to go first and the rest of the draw was by luck. I like to start early and I think it is a slight advantage. careful to run the first loop conservative and it helped when I shot 3 out of five prone narrowly missing the last shot. Shot a little slower versus Fort Kent and it made a difference. The rest of the field with all of their training shoot rather fast, but had to stick with my plan. Shot 2 out of 5 standing also better for me. Far less penalty loops to run so mentally just a much better race. Finished last, but when the rest of the field trains full time can't be disappointed missed 26th place by one minute and managed to outshoot about six women. for some reason they keep shooting really fast eventhough they are missing. Finished 4:05 out of first place. When I was being introduced, in a different language, understood some including that I was a full time Biologist and had numerous running awards. Had to weigh in the gun beforehand and found out it only weighs 8.5 pounds not 12.1 which is what I was told it weighed. extra distance for penalty laps not added.
Running warm up/down 18:00 [1]1.5 mi (11:59 / mi)
cool down with the a teammate. ran to the ski jump and looked it over. Otepaa is trying to bid for the winter olympics so they have a national team training facility with numerous paths for skate skiing on roller blades. Walked a little since her blisters were still bothering her. She was in the Junior women competition so did not compete in my field though she did run the same course as the Senior Women.
Shooting 30:00 [1]
zeroing before the start of the race. Not the easy to adjust since it was winds of various speeds.

Monday Sep 3

Running 33:00 [1]4.0 mi (8:15 / mi)
ran some on the course and the rest on the streets in town finding money on the street. did some pickups and came back into shoot. forgot to initially change my windage, but realized when I was missing all of the targets. Made the change and hit 3 out of 5 with winds that picked since shooting earlier. shot a few more standing and could tell I was tired since it was sloppy.
Shooting 1:20:00 [1]
more time on the range this time most countries showed up so more chaos to adjust, but managed to easily block it out. not good prone grouping- needed to warm up and shot really well. went to metal targets and shot 5 for 5 and reset and shot 4 out of five barely missing the last one. In between ran and came back for the standing metal target practice. shot 120 rounds total. much better conditions with warmer air and overcast, but no rain.
Note
back massage early in the morning for 20 mins since I think some of yesterday's shooting woes were due to a stiff back and not having the flexibility and balance needed to shoot well. It seemed to help along with the better weather. Also took my gun partly apart last night, cleaned well adding some oil to key parts which made it work a little smoother.

Sunday Sep 2

Shooting 45:00 [1]
informal training at the range. somewhat cold and extremely windy with shifting directions and speed so made zeroing and shooting tricky. Had to wait for the right moment to shoot. did not shoot that well, but when your whole body is blowing around it was tough. took the gun apart later to clean and dry out.
Running 34:00 [1]4.0 mi (8:30 / mi)
ran around on the course and through the town area. the course is mostly on a well groomed trail with about 30% on pavement. Climbs early with a slow decent.
Shooting 30:00 [1]
SCATT training in the hotel. This time did all standing.

Saturday Sep 1

Running 32:00 [1]4.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
run out just to stretch my legs. trained with a teammate.
Walking 12:00 [1]1.0 mi (11:59 / mi)
teammate was having so much trouble with her blisters walked the rest of the way back.
Walking 1:10:00 [1]5.0 mi (14:00 / mi)
walked to down town for credentials just they could not process us so have to return later. went to the competition site and looked over the whole set up. somewhat nicer versus Fort Kent, but this is where the national team trains. looked over the range. went through the town and walked back to the hotel.
Shooting 1:00:00 [1]
more SCATT since I could not use the range. All prone.
